Seriously. We want to this to be the best and most fun
movie site on the web so this is the place to tell us
what you'd like us to add or change. We really want to
hear from you!
Keep in mind though that we are just 5 people and
everyone here works really hard to make this a great
site - so please keep it respectful.
This might be hard to explain but I'll give it
a shot anyway. Is there anywhere on a person's
profile that there can be a little list or
something that shows how many of each rating
they have, ie. how many 1 star, 3 star, want to
see, etc. Maybe in the 'view all ratings
section', just to make it easier to scroll
through ratings.
It would be nice if we could see who we share
similar MCT scores with automatically so we
could make friends easier. It's so hard trying
to navigate through random profiles to find
someone with similar movie tastes.
Kudos to whomever came up with the idea for a
forum!
Ok, it would involve a lot of number crunching, but it
would be nice to have a list of films recommended by virtue of the fact that people who rated films similarly to you
rated them 5 stars... This could be done by MCT
results, or more accurately by all your rated films. Also, it might be nice to link into Netflix or similar rental services...And finally, while I'm at it, to allow simple exports films I want to see/recommended to me so I can get Mythtv to autorecord them. Oh, and IMDB links... I think that'll do for now.
Great site by the way!
Cheers, Grant.
PS.. Editing seems to add lots of unwanted br tags to the message which screws up the formating...
Can you add some sort of live chat function - so that if one of your friends is online you can get into some instant messaging? At the moment it's quite difficult to find people (even when you know their username) and there doesn't seem to be many options for interaction - unless I'm using the site incorrectly. cheers
It would be nice if somewhere on my profile it said how
many films I had rated with just stars, rather than just
stars, want to see and not interested altogether!
Hi. Just noticed that you've instituted a 10-point ratings system in flixster. Although it's probably too late, I think a 9-point scale (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5) would work better. The problem with 10 point scales is
that the average rating is a 5.5, a rating cannot be given. Similarly, in your system the average rating is 2.75. I can't give a movie this rating. If you just eliminate the "0.5" rating it would probably work a lot better
(besides, a 0.5 rating is pretty silly as the lowest possible rating; if you're going to allow that you should allow zero)
Otherwise, great job on the site. No, seriously, I love this site.
-Chat rooms (possibly categorized by movie genre I guess)
-A feature where you could search users by their user
names.
-A feature where you could search users by their
favourite movies (ex: I could type in "The Shining" and
all the users who have The Shining listed in their
profile as a favorite movie would be listed).
I think on the all reviews page you should add sub-
genres. Horror, love, ect... so you can see how each of
your tastes match up with the persons, kind of like the
MCT page.
I watch a lot of World Cinema and found I couldn't R&R
many of them, even the Asian ones. I liked the
suggestion of an easier way to find compatible members on
the site too. I haven't found anyone matching me that's
scored above 60 lol
shetlandmidget posted above about the idea of a preferred reviewers list. I don't think it would be a very good idea to base this on the number of reviews they've written, but I wonder if it wouldn't be fun to spotlight people you notice for having really put effort into their reviewing and who deserve to be noticed by the community. Perhaps knowledge of this program would encourage people to utilize the review/rating system more effectively.
Yes, I am thinking of people who rate the movie
based on how excited they are about going to see it before they go to see it. I wonder if there's any way of moderating that, though it probably would be too much work...
Search by distance and minimum MCT score would be good. Also, there should be a way to rate a movie as "would see with someone who wanted to see it." This should cause
a "good" match with someone who wants to see a movie, whereas right now, if you don't mark a movie as either "want to see" or "not interested," it produces a "hmmm."
Some kind of connection with Bebo.. Bebo rocks dudes!!
(www.bebo.com). This would mean that you could look at
people who have signed up to your school etc... Just a
thought
