10-5-08 -- Slow paced in the beginning but it eventually picks up. Not one of your most scariest movies but it will have you clutching your seat in places. If you see this movie it will only want to make you watch the sequels.
if you think about it...its the very first huanted house film set on a space station and its fucking great dan obannon touchs made it great and ridley did well at scenes that are creepy but dont have any music when the alien comes pusting out of john hurts chest its just a wow moment the first time you ever see a alien moments its like "fuck man!" you dont see it coming i remmber sitting there watching it hiding under my coffee table scared and ready to shit my pants...but wanting MORE!
I finally got the chance to watch the whole movie from beginning to end! Its no lie that Alien is a true classic and one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. The cast is totally believable and everything was ahead of its time. Completely entertaining.
It was a nastalgic classic for me, it had all of the elements of "what makes a suspence full movie" and horror film. However horror films in general have a 4 year life expectancy where they cease to be scary, but the that fact doesn't stop me from watching "Alien." I greatly enjoyed it, and I'll watch it again, again.
I was remember when I was little with my dad once times. I been watched already second times very good!
wata sci fi....the talk bout this film was rite...wat direction!!!! ridley has defs mastered a classic
Another rereview.
Alien is one of the best horror movies ever made. For being made in 1979, it still holds up well today. From the beginning, the setting is atmospheric. The acting is the best. The special effects are entirely practical, which is the best in horror movies. The titular creature os scary and menacing. Although the beginning is rather slow, the thrills don't stop when the scares do. You must see this movie
An effectively creepy Sci-Fi horror flick. The scene were the alien bursts out of a human body was truly disguesting! Worth a look from horror or Sci-Fi fans.
A fantastic movie. New concept of science fiction movies. Extremely terrifying, had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Very cool movie, very freaky alien.
I am changing this to 'Want to See' because I haven't seen it properly, and want a chance to actualyl WATCH it, not sleep through it.
This is what sci-fi horror is all about and still works today. The reason being is that it was perfectly directed by Ridley Scott and casted. Sigorney Weaver was born to play the role of Ripley and brings so many differant sides to her. She is the perfect heroine
Great start, for a great series
Just sad that, seeing it again, I can see the man in the alien suit.
Nagyon jol elkeszitett scifi vagy horror... A mai napig erzem a belole arado nyomaszto hangulatot :)
This is one of the only movie that made me jump? in space no one can hear you scream? but they sure can in the movie theater!
One of the best sci fi / horror films ever created - This film still stands up to today's standards yet it was filmed 30 years ago. This film will scare you. This film starts the way for one of the best known female protagonists ever. Dark cinematography, great pacing, outstanding acting and revolutionary special effects.
An incredibly tense and scary affair. Sci fi horror at it's best. Still stands up today because of it's cast, direction and visuals. I was 10 when I first saw this and had to take the next day off school. Those BBFC ratings are there for a reason.
My favorite sci fi of all time. From the brilliant acting by Sigourney and John Hurt to the frightful "Xenomorph", the embodied fear itself.
The idea for the xenomorph was taken from the dark mind of H.R. Giger, and this is one of the few 4+ star scifi suspense/horror/thriller movies I have seen.
Not to discount its (one) stellar sequel, but this is probably one of the best genre blends ever, mixing science fiction and horror into a story of survival and suspense. Could Ridley Scott do any wrong during this period of filmmaking?
''Final report of the commercial starship Nostromo, third officer reporting. The other members of the crew, Kane, Lambert, Parker, Brett, Ash and Captain Dallas, are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off.''
[to Jonesy the cat]
''Come on, cat.''
A mining ship, investigating a suspected SOS, lands on a distant planet. The crew discovers some strange creatures and investigates.
Sigourney Weaver: Ripley. The strong woman Heroine who shows Ripley as brave and courageous yet exposed and vulnerable deep down. Ripley is a character that has become iconic.
Alien is an original, tense sci-fi film ahead of it's time Ridley Scott along with Bladerunner, done slightly afterward, has made two movies ahead of their time.
The music and sounds are tense and thrilling. The story and originality without question perfect.
I think the alien face-hugger entity hatching when you first see it appeals to your curiosity. You know it's bad but you don't quite know the reasons.
Watching again I'd say that keeping the alien unseen for most of the duration of the film is key to it's suspense. The not knowing the rub. Upon seeing the Alien in it's full form, was impressive at it's time, you've never seen anything like it although I would of liked the alien not
seen fully or briefly, as not seeing, makes the audience wonder and plays on your imagination.
A classic, imaginative, ahead of it's time. Only thing i've seen that has come close to repeating this recently was Sunshine.
For 1979 it puts other sci-fi clones to shame.
I really do miss the 70s horror films, because they weren't content to "scare" you with loads of blood and gore but by taking the time to build the suspense and creep you out. Sure, everyone knows and loves the chest-burster scene, but, for me, the best and scariest scene remains the one where Dallas goes looking for the xenomorph and it pops out of nowhere in an air duct and grabs him. It's the first real look at what the creature looks like, and it lasts for only a few seconds. There is also the great ass-kicker of all-time character in Ellen Ripley. If only they had followed protocol and listened to her at the very beginning, the entire crew wouldn't have gotten their faces splashed with acid blood and the small inner mouth. A fantastic entry to one of my favorite franchises ever.
In space no can hear you scream.Flixster - Share Movies
The beggining of one of the scariest sci fi franchises of all time. What a powerfull combination of science fiction and horror.(great mix). Before inovating the genre in Blade Runner,Ridley Scott made the audience scream of horror with the introduction of one of deadliest monsters of movie history.Even the second is my favorite, the original remains to be an oustanding classsic of science fiction.
Best sci-fi horror movie ever. I remember watching this with my parents friends over and all their kids. All the kids were laying on the floor and my dog stepped on the back of my leg. I screamed as any 9 year old boy would and it set off a chain reaction and everybody screamed. Good times!
A pulse pounding horror/sci-fi movie full of suspense filled sequences of the horrific slime covered alien creature so awesome you've never seen anything in a movie like this before.

If you must take an Alien quiz and are a fan. Steer clear of Rabidwombat22's. For the most part it's correct but on three questions, he is absolutely wrong. He won't even own up to facts provided by Wikipedia. He's not a fan in my book.
You will not get 100% even cheating. The only way you will is if you GUESS right or ask him first. In his mind, he is correct. I was NEVER mad that I didn't receive a good score as I had aready stated that I never expected to. I just wanted to point out to him, his errors.
I'm not the only one to point this out to him.
Shameful!
