OMG This is comical and spun ,,at the same time lol..Johnny Depp is FANTASTIC in this one ,,he sure did surprise me here!! What a TREAT !!
This story is based on the sweet, innocent, uncommon love that forms between between Johnny Depp's character (Sam), a young man with a great imagination, and Mary Stuart Masterson's character (Joon), a girl who is a passionate painter with a mental illness. She is taken care of by her brother (Benny) played by Aidan Quinn, who is overprotective and always concerned for Joon. The actor's performances in Benny & Joon were very believable and sincere. Depp and Masterson did make a great pair, and the chemistry was wonderfully played out. I would liked to have seen more of Julianne Moore in this film, she could have added much more charm to the movie had she had a bigger part. I must say that this film was not extremely well written, or directed. It is some what boring and slow at times, but at others is very entertaining. It would be a great movie to watch on a Sunday morning curled up on the couch. Seeing this movie once was enough for me, but if it was on cable, I'd sit down for it. I wouldn't pay the $3 to rent it again, but if you haven't seen it, it would be worth it.
This movie was soo outstanding. Johnny and Leo did so great! I can't beileve that Leo did such a great job acting like a mentally challenged child?!?
Sweet little film. Maybe too much sugar for some and the music is a bit obligatory. But enjoyable nevertheless.
A romance on the brink of reality...Rated: (PG)
Directed by: Jeremiah S. Chechik
Genres: Drama, Comedy
Starring: Johnny Depp, Julianne Moore, Mary Stuart Masterson, Aidan Quinn"Mommy?"THE MOVIE OUTLINE
"In a small town, an auto mechanic named Benny is devoted to taking care of his mentally ill sister, Joon, who can barely function alone in the real world despite being a talented artist. This relatively stable situation is shaken up when Benny is obliged in a poker game to welcome another player's relative, Sam, to his home for a few days. When Sam arrives, he quickly makes an impression with his quietly eccentric ways which emulate the antics of the great silent movie comedian, Buster Keaton. Without Benny's full knowledge, Sam and Joon finds themselves drawn to each other to the fullest degree. However when Benny finds out, it creates a rift in the siblings as they struggle to accept their relationship is profoundly changing with the presence of this odd newcomer. "MY APPRAISAL
IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE BY EARLY DEPP
One of those few good romantic comedies. Benny & Joon was hilarious, heartwarming, and idiosyncratic. Nevertheless, I wonder why did they give the title 'BENNY & JOON' when it supposed to be 'BENNY & JOON & SAM'? Johnny Depp's role as Sam was a bit dominating yet he stole every viewer's attention just as he actually stood in the spotlight. Masterson's performance was pretty impressive and although Moore was given a tiny proportion, she lurks sweetness at some part. However, Benny & Joon will leave us another testimony what a BRILLIANT actor Depp is whatsoever and Johnny isn't just an actor but he's an artist. He is one of those great names Hollywood has ever had.
