I found this movie rather funny. I laughed trough the whole thing. i didnt think it was hilarious but it was enjoyable. I dont usally like Owen Wilson but this movie was pretty good.
I wouldn't say it's a waste of time but also I wouldn't spend it that way again. Its a movie that it has some funny moments but they pass too fast turning it into a nonsense film.Maybe it is a entertaining movie for kids and teens because of all the situations. The story about Two kids hire a low-budget bodyguard to protect them from the playground bully. The cast is decent but the acting is weak. Owen Wilson in maybe his worst performance, I don't know but I feel him uncomfortable with this role, the three kids are good, specially Tony Gentile (the fat one). In conclusion, It was intended to be and entertaining movie and it was for a while.
I am trying to rate this 2.5, but it doesnt let me :S
This was not such a bad movie but its also not what i really expected..
I mean come on, surely there are some bullies in high school but they dont go that far, its a bit over done if you ask me..
It began really well then it really starts to fall apart..
Its a movie about a bunch of geeks who wants to be cool (typical) but then they must face the school bullies, well, are we watching a nick or disney show? it seems this one is far worst too..
its worth to watch once if there is nothing better on TV, and yes! the movie could have been way better..
Painfully unfunny and terribly stereotypical. Owen Wilson seems washed up and while its kind of charming, I wish I was watching Superbad instead. I ask myself if I would ever recommend this to anyone even if it was for free, and my answer is no.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie, and only watched it on a recommendation from a family member. I had never even heard of it. What a pleasant surprise though! I really liked it. It was funny without being gross, and just a cute "underdog" movie.
Different from other teen loser movies but that's probably what's good about it. Some good funny bits, perhaps just a little unrealistic. Some of the good actors in this weren't used enough.
Drillbit Taylor wasn't a terrible idea for a script, but it wasn't a very good one either. I'm convinced that Owen Wilson wasn't made out to be in a lead role. He's fun to watch in support, but has landed flat on his face in any attempts to carry a script. This is no exception. It's not that he was terrible, it's just that the movie lacked any sort of substance, despite Wilson seemingly using his fullest range as a character. The kids (like in any other movie that has kids as important characters) stole the show and salvaged some sort of quality for this movie, at least from a comedy standpoint. The script made just enough sense for the audience to be disapointed by it's complete lack of appeal and as far as humor it was average for a comedy. Translation, not very good.
it had a few funny parts in it but i guess i wasn't in the right mood for this one, i have to watch it again someday, but it is more or less a nobody trying to impress some kids that are being bullied in school, but it is a bit diffrent from other movies i got to say that
It was not Owen's best film, by far. The kids testing thier strengths was the best part of the movie. I enjoyed it to a degree, but would not highly recommend it. If you like outrageous comedy from kids' mouths then this may be a movie for you.
Much better than I anticipated. Wasn't interested until I found out this film was Apatow produced and Seth Rogen was a writer; their influence on the film is marked. The school bully is far nastier than I was expecting but that made the ending more satisfying. He was also hot.
Awful Superbad copy anyone? This is such blatant plagiarism! It's like a version of Superbad with younger actors. Minus the great jokes, acting, directing and script!
Surely, this isn't the best Apatow film ever, and I was kinda surprised when I heard it was written by Seth Rogen. It was entertaining to watch but it wasn't as "Apatow" as I wanted.
i loved it, funny as hekk you think its going to be one of these shit films that were made for the sack of it like dont mess with the zohan starring adam sandler but its completely the opposite its funny hilariously funny completely worth a watch!
I wasn't interested in seeing this in the first place, but recieved the DVD as a gift.
Oh boy, it sucked.
EXACTLY what I expect, and I expect bad things.
Don't waste your time.
Um, it made me laugh. It could have been worse, since it is...what, like the first movie Mr. Wilson has ever done on his own? I like how he comes clean fairly early through the movie. You know, comedies and romantic comedies usually center around a big lie, and its just a matter of time before the man or woman says, "ok, I kept this extremely important truth about myself from you. Oops." I suppose this film isn't the perfect example...perhaps 10 Things I Hate About You would have been better. Ergh, fuck that movie. But I digress...
This movie was funny, but we actually rented it twice cause we forgot we'd already watched it, lol, not sure what that says about it...but that's my story...we laugh about it now and say, "hey lets get drillbit taylor" when we go to the video store. My 2 cents.
saw in the plane going from toronto to london at about 3 in the morning it entertained me but if you're looking for anything really insightful or meaninglyfull look elsewhere
what a great movie about three geeks freshmens who hired drillbit taylor to be their boyguard because there are two bullies at school that wont leave them alone. the movie is great because you see how they stand up to the bullies and how through lessons everything can be done. the funny twist about the story is that owen wilson characters is a bum, who lies to get the gig of the bodyguard but also ends up learning a lesson on friendship and how when life gives you lemons you learn to make lemonades. i do recommeded this movie.
I really enjoyed this film. I wasn't expecting a lot but I was surprised through out. Owen Wilson is as good as ever (better than Me, You and Dupree) but the real screen stealer here was Troy Gentile. It's worth a watch, you'll be surprised.
