Useless movie, i have never seen somebody acted so bad as Timberlake did in this movie.
You should deffinitly NOT see this.
There was some good action, but definitely not Justin Timberlake's best role. Morgan Freeman pulled it off though.
I am baffled as to what the director of 'Edison' was actually tring to achieve. Is this meant to be some dystopian view of the corporate society gone horribly wrong? Or an all guns blazing action-comedy? With such a haphazard tone built into such a ludicrous screenplay, the question I should be asking is what on earth are Oscar winners Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman doing in such a cheap and lazy motion picture?
Okay, so I gather that the plot concerns some secret police unit named F.RA.T that is corrupt from the get-go. Even judges are in on the money-laundering scams. But young journalist Josh Pollack (Justin Timberlake) uncovers the truth after a drugs-operation goes awry, and a man is convicted of a crime he did not commit.
The premise sounds more exciting than the execution, I assure you. What confuses me most is that while the action and thriller aspects of the material are poorly written, they are directed competently enough. Actually a couple of moments border on very good. But then the director makes a major mis-step when handling the comedy; it is like witnessing scenes from another film entirely. They don't fit with the story or the atmosphere, and try to make some attempt at lightening the tone. Question: when everything else is just about running smoothly, why tack on such unnecessary filler?
Still I am not sure 'Edison' could ever recover from such a flimsy script. The action is a bundle of good-guy bad-guy cliches, and Timberlake and LL Cool J just don't have the energy or ambiguity to make us question their morality. You can guess the outcome of each scene before it dawns, and the lengths to which the screenplay assumes itself intelligent is almost laughable.
'Edison' also suffers technically, particularly with the editing. Scenes move too fast, cars seemingly jumping from one place to another with little coherence and pace. But what leaves you feeling so detached is the inability to get caught up in the story; a joke it is, but some effort in getting us in on the joke would probably have done the picture some good. As for Spacey and Freeman, well their talent is wasted; figures for name-dropping when the plot proves to dull and inept to sell itself.
I can't imagine even die-hard action junkies getting much love out of 'Edison'. From the ridiculous unravelling of the plot, in an almost insanely ignorant world, to the nauseatingly perfect ending that you have to laugh at to avoid getting worked up. Stupidity best sums up the writing, but I didn't feel to clever myself having wasted my time thinking 'Edison' was actually going somewhere.
A lot of great actors, LL Cool J, Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, John Heard, Kevin Spacey, Piper Perabo and Justin Timberlake (he surprised me! I thought he was gonna be so bad!)
Like many movies when there's a lot of famous people in it, it doesn't get great, but it's still a movie I enjoyed to watch.
I was insanely surprised that I liked JT's acting skills. it wasnt amazing but it was pretty darn good. he looked to be at the same level of acting as morgan freeman and the likes.
the film itself was okay. i would of prefered to see more of the ending like there was a decent enough fight scene but it was all about *burn burn burn i've got great aim end of* there was no realy significant action or even stretching for LL cool J (ME. HAHAHA. moving on..) in his limits. like these guys are meant to be the best and LL cool J on his own took down his whole unit? well all 3/4 of em left :S strange.
OH and i just saw another comment. and i agree with it. kevin spacey really didn't shine in this movie at all. i dont think the role suited him. it was more of a part for someone much darker and deeper. rougher and ruskier. hehe. in my opinion that wasn't cast well.
dylan mcdermott though. yummy...
i'd recommend.
A very complicated story. A crime thriller with action and drama. Where you could see the abuse of power, politics, drugs, journalism, corruption and other social problems in a super hero kinda way. Yes, this great cast were like villains and super heroes in a Batman or Superman movie but without a diguise.
The movie fails badly sometimes like in sound, editing and orther stuff. But i give 5 stars because of the grear cast, like 9 people that will blow up your mind, great treatted conflict in the story where every single character got something to do about it and about their decisions, each actor fits physically great, it has a great fight bettween LL Cool J. and Dylan Mc Dermott that looks so real, and of course that neither close to my wildest dreams i've could imagine in the same sequence outside in a car the great Academy Award winners Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman aguing while waiting for Grammy Winners (that made history their own) Justin Timberlake and LL Cool J. talking while a slow tempo up beat rap is sounding in the back. Oh that was f#@$^ng fantastic.
