Plot: Story follows a group of Marine recruits from the harrowing experience of boot camp to the horrifying battlefronts of Vietnam.
The story of Marine recruits who've served in Vietnam and the horrors they faced. One of Stanley Kubrick's most fascinating films and the very best of 1987. Really keeps your focus.
Full Metal Jacket was quite an exciting film, I really enjoyed the beginning when the drill instructor was swearing and dissing everyone.
There are only 2 movies i really like from Kubrick, and this isnt one of them :s .
it is a very funny movie but it didnt really got my attention.
awesome, not comment. I like to see it many times, but in the marines things are different now. the few the proud Marines.
Another movie i think was overrated..I was like I saw two moviies..and I didn't like either of them.
the first hour dwells in vulgarity a little too much, and the last five minutes were a little silly for an otherwise serious and emotionally effective film, but in all this is a really good war film. sort of plays like two different films in some ways, but overall very impactful and legitemate in showing the reality of war. good flick.
Excellent film. The first half ideals with turning the raw recruits into marines. Lee Ermy is superb as the drill sergeant, he has some classic hilarious lines. There are a couple of brutally shocking scenes in this part of the movie. The second half follows one of the recruits in Vietnam, there is a time jump which could be anything from a few months to a couple of years. Vietnam starts off by looking preferable to basic training, our recruit is having a good time as a reporter. This changes when he is sent into the battle zone. Most Vietnam war movies have the action set in the jungle but this is set in urban areas with bombed out buildings. Even if you don't like war movies this is well worth watching.
If you want to know what marine corps boot camp is like my husband says this movie gives a good example.
Matthew Modine, Vincent D'Onofrio, R. Lee Ermey were the major actors in this one. It has a big, good cast.
The dialogue of the R. Lee Ermey as the Drill Sargent is relentless. Actually feel depressed like you are standing there in line at attention listening to all of the BS. Amazing monologues and dialogues.
Vincent D'Onofrio turns it on, playing a simple minded man in the marines.
Unlike other war movies I've seen and enjoyed more, the soundtrack to me seemed very sparse and not a big contribution, which made me pay more attention maybe to the finer details of the actors, costumes, props, dialogue, etc.
It did seem long to me, like watching 2 movies. The first part of boot camp is full of the stereotypical Drill Sargent "you piece of maggots" blah, blah. But still it is brilliant. Lots of language and strong stereotypes typical of Vietnam era boot camps taken to the extreme. Very awesome when it came out in the 80's.
Well done, it is a classic imo.
Full Metal Jacket follows up the story of a group of Marine recruits from the harrowing experience of boot camp to the horrifying battlefronts of Vietnam. it is simillar to Saving Private Ryan. Full Metal Jacket has to be the best Stanley Kubrick film.
A film of two halves, the first being both a hilarious and harrowing look at Boot Camp, and the second descending into a fairly montonous look at the Vietnam War on the ground.
Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket was excellent. the story: the story follows a group of Marine recruits from the harrowing experience of boot camp to the horrifying battlefronts of Vietnam. A great classic. it is simillar to Saving Private Ryan. one of the greatest war films ever and one of the best films of 1987. Stanley Kubrick's directing was great in this film. a bit of humour put in this film. i really enjoyed this film.
Gritty Vietnam epic movie that never pulls the punches. Kubrick is brilliant at keeping the story fresh and stunning.

A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow Marine recruits from their brutal basic training to the bloody street fighting set in 1968 Hue, Vietnam.
Full Metal Jacket is one of those many famous war films that I didn't see. At last I've finally got around to watch it. Full Metal Jacket is, for me, one of the most undterated war films and films that I've ever seen. It focusses specifically on how characters progress in the situation they're in and not a specfic War fil on Vietnam. I'm sure if any fellow females want to watch a war film but don't like them, this is the one to watch.
I've seen a few Kubrick films now and this one was the one I hadn't seen. I'm glad I have. Whilst the film is more a character study piece, you still get an idea of the trama of War. Most of which is relevant still today, with the current unpopular Iraq war. Watching this, you really get a sense of Wartime and how things will never really change.
Acting is great especially from R Lee Emery in th eopening sequence. His portrayal of the drill sergent in the pening sequence was incredibly realistic and really makes you feel for all the soliders around also worth mentioning Vincent D'Onofrio's perfromance as the slightly odd Private Pyle-who end up being insane. Matthew Modine's lead performance and narration really sets the viewer into the war time.
Overall Full Metal Jacket is one of the lesser known exaples of a character study of War. Krubrick focusses specifically on the the characters and less of the war. Although it's mentioned on the occasion, you get the sense of the morals soliders faced during the Vietnam war and War time.
I can't recomend this enough. One of Kubrick's best. But not a patch on Apocolpyse Now but very close.
9/10
he deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?
Pretty fucked up.
...oh, now I see why everyone likes this movie. Sargeant Ermey has all quotable lines in this one, and for anyone who likes a war/military flick, this one is right up there with...Saving Private Ryan or something.
when i first seen this movie a mate of mine was just going into the raf ( royal air force ) and i was like to him is this what really goes on in boot camp? he was like yea mate , im like well i never go into the armed forcese then lol
yea this film is almost reall life look at the faces of the main stars when u watch them go though the boot camp faze , they like all tunned up and focusd , a testement to stanley kubrick .
I'm not particularly fond of war movies but I'd absolutely recommend this one to people interested in Vietnam war and war movies in general. People
interested in the Military should also see it! It's featured in a wonderful book I've got from my parents as a christmas present, titled Cine de los 80 by Jurgen Muller. I have to admit that I completely enjoyed the movie, it sparked my interest in the original novel The Short-Timers, available for free download in Gustav Hasford's web site. The first "act" is mercilessly
descriptive of US marines
training (from the movie creator's point of view I guess), and I was particularly shaken by a scene centered on a mysterious sniper (not telling more guys). Don't miss it.
Full Metal Jacket: A powerfully good movie. The second half has a hard job measuring up to the first half in boot camp, The ending is quite surreal and disturbing.
.
Usually the grossness of movies like this don't affect me, but this one I had trouble with. It wasn't even super gory, but I didn't like the gore that they had.
A must see. One of the greatest films about war and the impact it has on men. Also one of Kubrick's best, but then again all his movies are must see's.

"Stanley Kubrick" is a genius,In this movie he shows what war is really about. War is never justified, war is never good. Therefore I think war movie should never glorify war but rather show it as what it really is: nightmarish hell.He also gives us a "grunts-eye-view" of military training and combat in a war that was particularly unpopular and well documented.
Private Joker: My thoughts drift back to erect nipple wet dreams about Mary Jane Rottencrotch and the Great Homecoming Fuck Fantasy. I am so happy that I am alive, in one piece and short. I'm in a world of shit... yes. But I am alive. And I am not afraid.
Fucken hilariouse. That job would so suit me, i love to talk shit about others.
Cold, brutal portrayal of the training and subsequent field operations of the U.S Marine Corps. This is a must see for Vincent D'Onofrio's character alone!
