Plot: Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual and bizarre decision regarding her unborn child.
I was mainly impressed by the language and the music. Unusual, because you never really knew where this movie was going, and the characters were both interesting and well played. I think I would have enjoyed this movie more a year ago though, it's hard to live up to the hype even if you're a pregnant sixteenyearold who can both carry a pipe and give someone the finger while making out.
it was soooo good i cried my eyes out. even though a teenage girl is prego, it's still really good. and she fell in love at the end. and i'm happy for jennifer garner in the movie, and angry at her husband.
I hated it the first time I watched it, I must have been in a bad mood because the second time I laughed my ass off at Ellen Pages sarcasm and the one liners.
Juno: And the receptionist tried to get me to take these condoms that looked like grape suckers and was just babbling away about her freaking boyfiend's pie balls! Oh, and Su-Chin was there and she was like, "Hi, babies have fingernails." Fingernails!
Leah: Gruesome. I wonder if the baby's claws could scratch your vag on the way out?
:D
This was, purely entertaining, I enjoyed it, Junois so cool and is pretty smart for someone who did something stupid...
I loved every moment of it.
very nice and thoughtful movie, it makes me think of how life can change with a simple afternoon passed doing not the usual hobbies... it's strange but i dunno if i would have done the same thing as the main character...
Ellen Page's performance was definitely oscar worthy and the fact that she didn't win goes to show you just how far up their own asses the people who decide the winners really are. Wait, did that make sense?
Anyhow, this movie rocked!
I really like this movie, it's just that I can't actually get some parts of the movie. But anyway, good good. Michael Cera is always funny :'D
What can I say? this movie has the right to win the oscar for best movie... best actress... and the others in which is nominated! Go see it! it is GREAT
Michael Cera look kinda dumb in this movie, compared to Ellen Page who look confident and straight in this movie
werid movie,I found there was too much music being played throught the background and it was driving me crazy.had some good smart ass remarks and funny quotes, just not my cup of chocolate milk.
I didn't know what to expect heading into this. The buzz was good, but Kitty Pryde as a sarcastic, pregnant chick? Wait a second, is that the psycho chick from Hard Candy? Holy crap - that chick killed two people and cut one dude's junk off!!! She's in a teenage romantic comedy? She was so freaky in Hard Candy I was worried for my own safety and I wasn't even in the flick.
Anyway, Juno ended up being one of the best movies I have ever seen. One of the things I did not mention about Page in Hard Candy was that she was amazing. She made you believe, believe she was the character. She made you feel that character's pain, and made you uncomfortable the entire time you watched - in a good way, sort of. In Juno, she played a sort of alter-ego to that character (and did anyone else catch the little homage to Hard Candy towards the beginning of Juno? Think red hoodie), but was equally as brilliant.
Kitty Pryde from XMen, Hayley from Hard Candy, now Juno from well, Juno. Page is an incredible actress, and made Juno more than what it could have been if a lesser actress had played that role.
Oh yeah, the film was flipping hillarious, with great character development - isn't Jason Bateman scummy? - and a nice story arc. Definitely a 5-star from me.
I thought it was pretty good :)
But i don't really know because when i watched this movie we skipped most of it..mm, it was weird, so i can't really comment on it properly, i want to watch it again.
this movie is awsome,it's one of my favorite movies, ellen page performed really perfect.i was surprised that she gave her baby away,if i were juno,i would keep the baby.and though it had a serious topic"a 16 year-old-girl got pragnant",but it was really funny,i love this movie!
The animated opening credits of 'Juno' ring true to the film's emotional core, from the offbeat and rather uplifting tune to the pastel colours of the suburban American neighbourhood. This character will suffer hardship, perhaps frequent and profound, but everything will undoubtedly turn out alright in the end. It has to, because those initial scenes elate us with their unconventional style and cool retro look. We want a happy ending.
Juno MacGuff is a surprisingly smart teenager. She has an answer (usually witty) for just about everything, but as much as she might disagree she has yet to learn or experience the full extent of the world around her. After an unusually honest sexual encounter with her best friend Paul Bleaker contraception decided to fail, and she must decide how to tackle this unplanned pregnancy.
Reitman and Page work extremely hard at ensuring this character's brazen attitude and minor irritancies can be overlooked by her soft heart and inherently good nature, but it takes a second viewing to see beyond such characteristics in the film's first act. She is brash, confident and outwardly honest, but Juno is only sixteen, and Page's extraordinarily confident performance combined with Reitman's understated style manages to convey the broken child inside when the girl suffers disappointment or hurt. She is simply not ready to bring up her own.
The success of the Oscar winning screenplay by Diablo Cody works in two important ways. Firstly, it plays with audience expectations, in characters and narrative. Juno sees the good in everyone, simply because she knows life is better that way, especially when those people's flaws cause very little harm; she smiles at the girl who flirts with the teachers, thinks the shy and introverted Bleaker is the coolest kid in school, and isn't afraid to express any of these opinions. Soon enough, we see what she means.
Secondly, the film has perfect comic-timing. When Juno breaks the news to her parents, we expect them to hit the roof, right? Wrong. They offer their help, support and love along with some wise and sensible words, and the whole scene feels right and real. On the news Bleaker is the father, Juno's parents try to hide their amusement; "I didn't think he had it in him". At her first scan, the technician passes judgement on teenage pregnancy, but Juno's step-mum Bren (Allison Janney), who is nothing of the fairytale sort, puts her in her place with some brilliantly funny dialogue. Nearly every scene rings with absolute hilarity or exudes a monumentally raw and genuine pathos, and Cody's balance never falters. Comedy and drama are superbly entwined.
Juno cannot go through with an abortion, and decides instead to have her baby adopted by Mark and Vanessa Loring, a couple who have always wanted a child. At least, Vanessa has. As Juno's pregnancy progresses she grows fond of both of them, but finds a common ground with Mark; they share interests in film, music and she generally perceives him as a cool person who would make a great father. From here I genuinely believed I knew where the narrative was heading, and I am glad to say I was wrong. The final course breaks with expectation and convention, and the final resolution hits all the right notes.
I think Page is outstanding in the leading role, but I feel obliged to mention a sorely overlooked Jennifer Garner. Where was her Oscar nomination!? She makes Vanessa a woman who doesn't just want a child, but genuinely knows, from her gut, her heart that it is what she was born to do. Yes, Vanessa may lack Juno's sense of humour or Mark's hip and cool ways, but she is impossible to dislike; a scene where she stumbles upon Juno in the mall is particularly heart-breaking.
While the drama was extremely well done I think Juno's journey ends somewhat optimistic, and like the character herself the film ends up a little too smug with its own success - but the air of confidence is nothing against their likeability. Ultimately, 'Juno' showcases a year in the life of one girl, and avoids stereotypes and clichés in portraying the positive side of teenage pregnancy, something Governments and cynics are so keen to label a disaster for a nation. Just as Juno is willing to give so many a chance, Reitman, Cody and Page subtly imply we do the same.
'You're a part time lover and a full time friend'
16 year old Juno McGuff ironically finds herself 'up the duff?'and calmly decides to have an abortion. A sudden flare of conscience changes her mind however, and she decides to give birth to the child and have it adopted by a married couple. What follows is a sweet and charmingly comic sequence of events that make 'Juno' a really successful modern comedy. Its excellently witty dialogue, fresh directorial approach and quality actors make it a real pleasure to watch. It tackles a rather serious notion in a light-hearted manner but luckily without being unrealistic. I liked the fact that Juno as a character was neither stereotypically stupid or promiscuous, she was actually quite original and Ellen Page does a remarkable job at pulling her off. I'm not sure she was Oscar worthy, but there is very little to criticise in her portrayal. There's also some quality performances from the supporting cast. Jennifer Garner in particular really shines as the adoptive wannabe who so desperately wants to be a Mother. Her neurotic tendencies and genuine desire to nurture and raise a child are delivered with a real realistic precision. J.K Simmons and Allison Janney are also great as Juno's supportive parents. The films comedy also comes from a super-funny Michael Cera who plays Juno's boyfriend. He barely has to do anything to make me laugh. He's comic gold. With its great cast, quality screen-play and original and kooky soundtrack, 'Juno' is a decent comedy that'll entertain for sure. Excellent stuff.
Really good. Even though the DVD messed up. I forgive it though as the film was seriously good and i got through it and am going to buy it! :D
Excellent. Funny & Real Life. Everyone can relate. I highly recommend. You'll want to watch it again and again.
My sister rented it a while ago and I had nothing better to do so I watched it with her. We got the first disc from Netflix and it was damaged and it stopped when Juno's mom gets pissed off at the female doctor. I think it was God's way of telling me not to watch it.
We ordered another one and finally finished it. I hated everything about it before I saw it and I still hate everything about it now with the exception of the adorable Michael Cera. He was the only good thing about this movie. I don't think I'd ever see it again unless someone was paying me. Ellen Page is annoying and can't act. Oh and don't even get me started on the "He is the cheese to my macaroni"/"Honest to blog?" lines. I cringe every time I hear them/have to read them/have to type them.
incredible film especially the acting by Ellen Page and M Gera. The storyline was impressive about life on teen pregnancy. A heartwarming story and must see.
The movie is very good, with a little comedy. it is a very cute movie with a lot of relations from real life.
I loved everything about this movies except somehow Juno (the character) seemed a little too good to be true. Her personality is just a little hard to swallow, considering she's only 16. Maybe because Ellen Page is 20 and she plays her role just too well? :)

I don't like the message this film sends to teenage girls. Specifically, that teen pregnancy is without consequence. Indeed, the film seems to be conveying the message that you can get knocked up, then give the baby away without emotional trauma, and all the while, your parents won't get mad at you and your boyfriend will stick by you.
Pretty much brilliantly handled. Lesser writers and directors would've made the pregnancy ultra sappy. And made Juno and Mark a total pedo or seduction angle. Reitman and Cody made the story much more unique and handled it delicately.
i loved this film!!!
however... will somebody PLEAse tell me what 'iheartdwanynejohnson' is on about in the review section???? Ellen Page ISNT a boy!!!
Juno Rocks! I Had My Birthday Recently And Thats All I Wanted! I Watch It Over & Over! I Kno Almost Every Line! Ellen Page Is Like An Awesome Actress!!!
what a film, sensitive at times and it is so laid back, Juno is one of those hidden gems. Juno is misunderstood and has her own unique view of the world and is a great performance from Ellen Page. The soundtrack is great and it works so well with the film and its an easy film to slip into and relax. I love the chemistry between the adoptive father and juno, the parents reaction is perfect, one of support and understanding, no yelling or shouting, they accept their daughter is pregnant and dont make out she is wrong but support her. a perfect film, i cant recommend it enough.
JUNO rocks!!! She is the best actress EVA!!! i hape to see her in many many more films!!! Ellen Page is a dream to all girls having the courage to tell her parents bout it and then have it get adopted!!! lol i LOVE IT!!! omg it is so down to earth!!!
