You know to be very honest,I don't think half the people on here really read these reviews.I know I do try to get all my friends and have watched several of their recommendations. So I think sometimes it is fairly unimportant for me to write these out.On the flip side in a year or two I guess at can at least look back at these and remember what the films were about right? This movie,Man where do I start with this??I am sad I waited to long to see it.I think alot of people and not going to like it...Why you may ask?Because it's everything opposite of what Hollywood hes diverted us into not appreciating anymore. No bombs,No gut wrenching car chases,no bullets. But for once in a long time a total breath of fresh air.So I loved the cast I always liked Kate Winslet since that one lil worldwide smash...God, what was that again oh Yes Titanic lol.I think she is a great actress,I am kinda new to this Patrick Wilson guy,Dont know much about him,but am wanting to see some of his other films now.Now the movie.Alot of people also wont be ready I think because of the content,Thick and deep folks. This is another Raw,In your face reality check movie. It explores everyday life in surburbia, with all the normal things that are really going on in the world. Some moments are chilling,Hauntingly real,You wonder what would it be like to be in that situation.Very thought provoking,Alot of sad moments, ones that make you wake the hell up and tell yourself that why we are out there every day wishing we were somewhere else.Or wishing that we WERE someone else,The grass is not always greener,Its just the fantasy that it might be.But the reality is this movie is a window to show you how life is life,It's what it is,and the choices you make affect everything. To love who you are with and your friends and family are all you really all you have when push comes to shove. Its a story about regonizing love that has been in front of you for a very long time ,but the distractions have veered you onto other paths, and you just needed one thing to happen in your life,a moment,A memory to throw your ass back to reality and realize what is truly important to you.Its a story of human just being human, through failures and triumphs that all we really need is each other.Ok I sound like a total treehugger now.You will understand when you see this movie what I am talking about ,I hope. Excellent movie Highly recommended! =)

Excellent acting and a story that was interesting all the way. Not a typical Hollywood-story that you could predict miles ahead, it kept me eager to see what the next move should be. It can't get a top grade though because it's so complicated with alot of characters so despite it's length, over 2 hours, it could need more time to be truly complete.

the cast in this film all performed so well in this dark drama. It really shows how easy it is for people to ruin each other's happiness. it was a bit disturbing, but i liked the way it was put together. Overall, very good.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Although the guy who narrarates is annoying. I didn't really care for his voice all that much. And the guy who was the pedophle was sooooo creepy. He played the part perfectly. The ending was sad what he did. Overall this was a great movie and the poster is perfect for this movie because there were lots of sex scenes. Lol. The first sex scene belonged in a porno. Haha.

A surprisingly compelling exploration of western life, relationships, and the society's imposed perception of happiness - or, rather, perhaps about 'growing up'. The cast all deliver stellar performances, and the narration draws you deeper, whilst almost creating the impression that this is a documentary. And in some ways it is, as most people come up against the point in life where the emphasis shifts and we have to realise that happiness is not necessarily constant thrills and excitement, as we are led to believe in youth and through mass media. Other stories show the humanity inherent in characters normally demonized by the media, and how everyone struggles to be accepted. I was very impressed by this film, and it left me feeling uplifted - rather than depressed, as the dark nature suggested would be the end result.

Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Tom Perrotta, Little Children follows the family life of young, unfulfilled suburbanites, Sarah (Winslet) and Brad (Wilson), whose relatively mundane and protected lives intersect on the playgrounds, town pools and streets of their small community. When a brief encounter at a neighborhood park leads them down a fateful path, their lives, and the lives of their children, take a surprising and potentially perilous turn.

Interesting plotline that flows pretty nicely. Great acting all-around with Kate and Patrick leading the way. Loses a half-star with that annoying-as-hell voiceover that seems to drop in and out every so often.

A fascinating insight into middleclass white suburbia secrets, like the relationship version of "Crash" focusing on different people that ties them together at the end. Great performance from Kate Winslet and a brilliant narrator.

Uncomfortable look at the ugly facade beneath a quiet suburban town. Sometimes, adults behave badly, and the results are painful.

'Little Children' is a quiet, unsettling drama that exposes the artificiality of America suburbia, but the film adopts an approach much more similar to the false grimaces found in 'Desperate Housewives' than director Todd Field's previous masterwork 'In The Bedroom', where it was things left unsaid that propelled the picture from mainstream to something far more extraordinary. For his next project, Field injects more dialogue and more action, yet the film remains much less affecting.

Kate Winslet plays Sarah Pierce, a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage, but one who is desperate to struggle against it. She falls for her male counterpart, in a similarly unhappy family role, solidly played by Patrick Wilson. A variety of other stories surround the overall theme of darkness underneath perfection, the most riveting being the reformation of a former paedophile, who struggles to fit with the perfect locals, nearly all of whom despise him. A brilliant Jackie Earle Haley embodies the character so deeply and makes his performance so affecting we are left in emotional conflict. Winslet also commands screen attention in a riveting performance, definitely one of her better acting roles to date.

Sadly, such a quality cast is let down by a severe lack of focus; despite all these stories ultimately finding connection, the director ambles his way around the journey, and while stand-alone scenes are compelling enough, directed with rigorous skill, the editing seems inconsistent and uneven. I also could not understand why Field chose to have the incessant bouts of narration; poetic they may be, but informative is an understatement - they elaborate upon single shots that do not need explanation, and to omit it would give the film some much needed depth and ambiguity.

Generally, I did admire the direction: scenes are suffused in symbolism and tension, and elevated to a higher status than they truly warrant, as the dialogue varies, from powerful and intelligent to little more than glossy soap-opera.

There is a final, gut-wrenching sadness to the narrative, but as the film ended, I felt cheated. Somewhere, underneath this good-looking, average drama, is a deeper, meaningful masterpiece desperate to be seen.

'Little Children' is a difficult film to watch on so many levels. It adopts and explores many themes of modern adult drama, the most relevant and frightening being that of perversion, which is the most difficult part of the film to accept and continue watching. I have seen films that embody this aspect, and although I have been 'affected' by it, I have always been able to accept and put the concept aside, but with 'Little Children' I found this extremely difficult. I am not a prude, I have seen several pieces of cinema that have caused controversy over their explicit material or violent nature, and I have been able to enjoy these texts and appreciate both sides of the debate. I understand that modern cinema must push boundaries, and I fully support this, I just found that some scenes of 'Little Children' were so terrifyingly realistic that they disgusted and frightened me. This may be the texts intention - to show the genuine horror of paedophiles and perversion - but I think perhaps the message is a little to clear, a little to striking, and could have been handled in a more sophisticated way. Although this theme is not the films most focused narrative, it is undoubtedly the most harrowing and upsetting part of what other wise is quite an original and compelling drama. The storyline of adultery is very tense and entirely believable. This is mainly due to the superb Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet who are absolutely fantastic in the lead roles. Their on-screen chemistry is easy and, more importantly, interesting to watch. Jennifer Connelly also performs well in her small, but important role, and the group of stereotypical American Mother's is also an interesting dynamic that the director employs. The overall direction is of a high standard, but there are moments that feel a little out of joint with the tone of the rest of the film, particularly the final football-game sequence, that was a little surreal for such a dark, adult drama. The intensity and haunting nature of 'Little Children' will undoubtedly etch it upon your memory, but you may find you want to forget it afterwards because of its devastating nature. Not for the faint-hearted.

This is a great movie option if you like dramas.. And still, for me it wasnt that dramatic as many others.

Is a great movie, and deserves to be watched. Kate Winslet looks so differet from all her previous characters, and Patrick Wilson gave the size to be side by side with Kate and Jennifer Conolley, that eventough her rol is short, she looks amazing and beautiful as well.. Great actress.
But the interesting for me was the director idea for the adaptation. It has great sequences, i mean, isnt boring, and has beautiful shots and stills..

The end of the several histories and characters that developed in the whole world around Sarah (Winslet) and Brad (Wilson) is great. It really left me a really nice flavor, is not dumb and obvious. And i felt my heart pumping on the last scene..

Really good option if youre into this kind of movies, and not regullar and none-sence movies..

I think this is from the novel by the guy who wrote "Election", Tom Perrotta. I read that book earlier this summer.
