Simply brilliant! From-the-heart, honest and tragic. Grabs your heart and doesn't let it go, throws you in the deepest end of the ocean and doesn't allow you to breathe.
Kevin Bacon's directing skills are equal to his acting ones and Kyra Sedgwick (whom I have reasons to doubt now and again) proves she's an excellent actress. Great film, soaked in humanity and sickening love.
This was not at all what I had expected, thankgod though, because I thought it was going to be a RomCom. It was really weird and rich in emotional complexity, I didnt know whether to hate the mother or sympathise with her and her situation. However what she did in the end was absolutely despicable, I cant even put into words how outrageous it was, but at the same time I feel like I cant fully hate her because I can understand from her perspective how she might have thought she needed to do that. Cinematography and music was great, it really stood out for me.
This movie is just ok in my books. I've never seen a movie use so many metaphors and I couldn't help but roll my eyes with every word that came out of Emily (the main characters) mouth. Although, I really liked the story line and enjoyed the film. The highlight of the film for me was the terrible acting by an extra, it had me in hysterics.
On the one hand, I hate Emily for being so selfish (a characteristic possibly passed down by her parents). On the other hand, the way she was portrayed by K. Sedg makes me feel that I'm being too judgemental. One question I have is how did the Emily of the 70s (the Life On Mars singing Emily) turn into the nutbag Emily of present day? She seemed so normal as a child. Sandra Bullock gave an incredible depth to her character who made only cameo appearances. For the funniest performance given a background extra EVER, skip to the part where Paul/Loverboy meets the school children for the first time (watch the boy third from the left). Hilarious.
I was pleasantly surprised with this, I really got into this one allot. I've never seen Kyra Sedgwick play such a peculiar and diverse character. Sad, interesting, strange..
Ok, I watched this thinking it was the OTHER Loverboy from 1989 with Patrick Dempsey. This one was weird and sad. Just can't imagine how messed-up some people are until you see this.
Kyra Sedgwick gives beautifully terrific performance in this well made psychological character study directed her husband actor Kevin Bacon (who also stars as her character's Dad in flashback!). Bacon's direction is well done, the script is nicely written and the all-star supporting all do a good job in their small but pivotal roles. It won't be for everyone but it is a really good watch.
This is a complex and nuanced story about a single mother's obsessive love for her only child. The story explores the psychology of this obsession and the sometimes sublime, sometimes tragic effects it has on the lives of both mother and son. The acting is superb and the characters portrayed are funny, endearing, and multifaceted. Marissa Tomei and Kevin Bacon are hilarious as the 70's era, sexed up, deliriously in love and sadly neglectful parents. Kyra Sedgwick is brilliant as she confidently captures the complex subtleties of her character, making it easy for the audience to empathize with what would otherwise be, and at times is a difficult and disturbing obsessiveness. movie moves and looks like a dream, and like a dream, it has an explosive, cathartic ending that you have to wake up from. It's never tacky, nor judgemental, nor is it complacent. It's a story of love and how far it can go.
this is a strange movie. i thought so, but some of my friends thought the movie was great. the story is a simple one. a woman wants to have the perfect son. so she ends up sleeping with a few different kinds of men. then she has the child, a boy. then she secures him so much and makes him love her uncondtional and she gets a bit obsessive. she starts calling him loverboy. the obsessions gets so much that the end is as tragic and the movie when it started. but it is entertaining in a psycho sort of way.
This was so good. And I still to this day (if you read my blogs) am trying to do the sheep whispering thing. I can't get close enough to one. I think they must have had REALLY tame sheep for this movie. I want my wish to come true. I loved this movie.
souds interesting, great cast too, Kevin bacon is one off the most underrated actors out there (his incredible performance in "the woodsman" was in inexplicably ignored by the oscars)
Okay, I love Kevin Bacon, and I love Kyra Sedgwick, but I dont love this movie. Actually I sort of hate it. Its boring and its definitely not Kyra's best performance...
finally saw it love it so much worth of the appreciation it got...*AMEN*Kyra Sedgwick was really outstanding and loved her performance 2 heart even Matt Dillon is excellent in the movie and so is the bubbly ans sweet Ashley Judd and Oliver Patt,Marisa Tomei all were excellent gr8 movie nice plot and everything else!!!Lmao peace out(waz this "PEACE OUT" needed??newayz..peace!)lol
loverboy is the title of one of my favorite j-rock bands songs so i'm curios and i want to see this movie now, even tho it sounds nothing like the song
