The experience of watching this film is mesmerizing. Not only is it beautiful, but the acting is terrific all around. I didn't want it to end. Can't wait to see it again to soak in the atmosphere and story more deeply. The use of color alone is worth studying closely. Later revelations paint certain characters in whole new lights, so I look forward to watching those performances again more omnisciently, to see nuances I'd missed.

Amazing movie, I love it. Based on the book of the same title, but I find the book has more information then the movie does. I love the dance part :)

"A life to struggle , a life to perform , a life to sacrifice ,an artist life , being a beauty , a real Geisha life.. "
    Xoxo, Channelia .

    Channelia's words

Innocent thoughts become beauty , beauty causes story , sometimes tragic and happy .

Beauty is held by a Geisha named Sayuri(Zhang Ziyi) . Sayuri was the perfect potrayal of Geisha at that time , the flawless beauty , the flawless performances and beautifully tragic love-story .
Geisha is a delicately settled by Rob Marshall . One of the most appealing beauty from East-Asia themed movie .
From score to cinematography , it was perfect .

Geisha came with great mixture of beautiful cinematography , mighty score , great setting , beautiful costumes and make-up and great actors . Even with English language , Geisha still looks realistic and mesmerizing .

Zhang Ziyi as Innocent Sayuri , Michelle Yeoh as elegant Mameha and Gong Li as depressed and wicked Hatsumomo showed gorgeous performance , both emotions and body languages .
Either Ken Watanabe as the wise-kind-hearted chairman and Koji Yakusho .
Last but not Least , is the Yoki Kudo as the comedic cruel Pumpkin . The fresh touch for the tragedy and drama .

At the end, Memoirs Of Geisha is a gorgeous creation from Rob Marshall which serves excitement eventhough it is drama and 2 hours ++ running time .

"Remember, Chiyo, geisha are not courtesans. And we are not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word "geisha" means artist and to be a geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art."

The film is simply technically perfect. The retro-mood it created had me immensed in the world of geisha from beginning to the end. The story also never dragged, as each of the three parts flowed nicely. The main problem is with character development. Except for some verbal back-and-forth between the two and a few dirty tricks from Li Gong, there was no reason to believe why she was the most famous geisha in Japan before Ziyi Zhang arrived. All of the cast performances were good.

This movie was amazing. I absolutely loved it. They did a fantastic job on it, though of course, like all movies based on books, they left out some stuff and added stuff. (Like the fire scene...) I read the book (which is marvelous!) and I had to see the movie. I'm so glad I did! You all should see it!!!!

    The movie was beautifully crafted...
it narrates the story of a girl's journey in becoming the best geisha China has ever known...the sophistication of the art of geisha was shown in this movie...and how it was lost in the invasion...

It also follows a story of two lovers, when they both know its forbidden...

Memoirs of a Geisha is a brilliant film. Ziyi Zhang is really beautiful with blue eyes and along with Michelle Yeoh and Li Gong it is one of my F@V Japanese's film.

I thought it was quite good, because i knew nothing about Geisha's, so it was interesting to see the way their lives are portrayed.

Very full of religious thought. I felt it was slightly uncomfortable to watch because of the use of Chinese workers as forced prostitutes. The story-line tells many tragic yet melting intentions, while the actresses, especially Michelle Yeoh, have done an excellent work of art in this movie.

This movie was a little long for me. I had a hard time staying focused on it. It had a good story to it, I just think they could have cut some stuff out of it.

would have liked to see japanese actresses playing the geishas for more authenticity. still, i thought it was very well filmed, with a good story, good pacing for 2.5 hrs, and commendable acting, especially that of Gong Li.

A great story about the life journey of a young Japanese girl. I loved the insight into Japanese culture. I felt bad for her at the end as the ancient and noble Japanese tradiotions had been wiped out due to WW2 and westernisation.

Culteral, dramatic, interesting, beautiful depictions, indepth emotional parts. This movie was balanced. It helped me understand the geisha and as well understand women in a chinese culture. I liked this movie although it was long. But long is good because atleast the movie was not crammed. I would say it is for 13+. It isn't for everyone but I found it entertaining.

Ok, when I first saw this movie, I was really drawn in by it's beauty. However, I have educated myself, and I now know how truly inaccurate both this movie and the book it is based on really true. If you REALLY want to learn about geisha, read "Geisha, A Life" by Mineko Iwasaki. She is the woman that the book by Arthur Golden is 'based on', and the one who wrote her own book because the book he wrote is inaccurate. She was actually a geisha, and so I trust her more than him. Basically, the film is something that is pretty to look at, but not take seriously. It's just too fictional.
