Real Review coming soon, but I give it this now because I fell asleep after the first 15 or 20 minutes. But I am going to watch it again and give a real review.
Very well written and good acting. Had a hard time following where everything fits in together, but still good.
I never felt the urge to go watch this film, but as I was doing a little bit of research on what films have won academy awards and I came across this one as being one of the big winners in 2007, so I got a copy.
I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't remember the trailer for this film but I'm sure I must have seen it, and it didn't impress me. However, the first lines in the film captured my attention and I kept watching it intently until the very end. It's hard to put a finger on what is so good about this film. I guess it's the soberness of the characters and the very possible reality of the plot. George Clooney and Tom Wilkinson put down a solid performance.
All in all it was very enjoyable; a good plot, great acting, and no excesses. Solid!
Very overrated. I see why it's so well reviewed and so well received even though it's quite polarizing but for my time, I want a little more, to be honest. There just wasn't a lot for me to hold on to.
very mediocre fare. i just don't get clooney, never have, never will. his appeal is totally lost on me. ok, he was decent in confessions cause he was always in the shadows. what this movie needed was a female fixer and a compelling plot.
Very similar to Erin Brockovich, just not as good. A lawyer uncovers a big conspiracy and tries to bring down the bad people. It's a very heavy film that isn't intriguing enough to keep the viewer interested throughout.
strong movie i love lawyer movie this is up there it keeps you guessing who did what incredible people and the writing good all around
Fine acting and a somewhat interesting storyline are wasted by the snail pace plotting, and the audience believing that characters have traits that are often discussed, but never are in evidence.
Was a really interesting movie. Clooney did a great job and I can understand why he was up for best actor in it. Tom Wilkinson did a fantastic job though too.
A very solid film. George Clooney gives another amazing performance. He is phenomenal. Tom Wilkinson is also very good here. Tilda Swinton was good but i think she stole the oscar from Amy Ryan. A well made film with a great ending.
Good film, but I don't see why it was up for so many Oscars. George Clooney gives one of his best performances as the title character, and Tom Wilkinson gives one of his best performances, as well. Now, those were both nominated for Oscars, but the performance that won from the film was Tilda Swinton's, which was probably the dullest performance of the film. She plays her character well, but she's just so dull. I think her character just stands out, because she's the only woman in the film. Tony Gilroy directed the film very well, and the script was good, but I still don't see why this political thriller was up for so many Oscars.
An absolutely riveting study of the worst week in a man's life. Any other year but this one, and Clooney would've had his Best Actor Oscar (because there was no beating Daniel Day-Lewis this particular year...), but robbed or no, he is spellbinding as an attorney who feels as though he's reached the end of his professional and personal ropes. Tony Gilroy, the writer who gave us the Bourne movies, makes his directorial debut here from his own original script, and he will be hard-pressed to top it in the future. One of the best of 2007.
Good story about the character of George Clooney. Tom Wilkinson was also right. But Tilda Swinton was even more marvelous...
Hollywood brings forth a "clean" lawyer, how surprising. It's interesting to watch it until Clooney starts acting like he's the world's savior.Ticking instrumentation by Gilroy and yet he has nothing more to point out but a sequence of pictures.Swinton is haunting though so is Wilkinson and the sound raise its status.
So deep! Don't understand, but i know the storyline is something like Erin Brockovich, except this time its from the perspective of the middle person..
A compelling and riveting tale that shows Clooney as a good actor. Definitely deserved to be up for all the oscars it was up for.
Michael Clayton: I'm not the guy you kill. I'm the guy you buy!!
For me, knowing that George Clooney is in a film is enough to make me want to see it, even if the title gives no indication of the genre or subject. In fact, this is a thriller in which Clooney as the eponymous "fixer" for a powerful New York legal form is rarely off the screen and gives a performance both commanding and compelling. I'm a great believer that the opening and closing of a movie are critical and this movie could be a text-box case of how to do it. Our attention and interest are seized from the opening seconds and the conclusion is satisfyingly sharp and redemptive.
This is not an obviously commercial work: the title is utterly prosaic, the dialogue is wordy, the plot is often ambagious and the whole production concedes little to traditional entertainment values (no car chases or shoot-outs or special effects here). Instead the viewer is treated as intelligent - someone who wants tight direction, clever photography and above all fine acting rather than showy effects.
Although it is unquestionably Clooney's film, the support performances from Tom Wikinson and Tida Swinton plus that from veteran director Sydney Pollack are all excellent and such character - driven movie would never have happened without Tony Gilroy who it and - in an immensely able debut - directed it.
Why is it that every movie that George Cloony produces is boring as all hell? Imagine two hours of lawyer talk- literally you needed a degree to understand half of it I am sure, coming out of talking heads that all look the same! It dosn't pick up until the last ten minutes, but you'll be luck if you are awake by then! The performers are good and do a very good job, however, you can't understand what they are talking about. And really Twilda Swinton gave the weakest performance and never really shined until the end- so she won an Oscar for it why? So here lies the issue, it was shot well, the music was good, the acting was well done- but the story sucked, sucked, SUCKED!!!
I must say, this movie was average at its best. The one thing that shines in this movie are the three oscar nominated performances by Clooney, Wilkinsin and Swinton. Yet the story is remarkably simple and unimaginative, especially for a movie that has been Oscar nominated. I found the pacing of the movie to be a bit clumsy, especially the beginning and forming of the movie's core conflict is very uncraftly introduced. Anyway, if you are into Law-dramas, this one is for you. I'd rather go for classic courtroom movies like "A few good men" or "presumed innocent"
George Clooney does a great job, and Tom Wilkinson does even better. But the movie itself, eh. It's standard lawyer fare, and a similar type of feel-good case as in Erin Brockovich. Also, I'm not exactly sure what Tilda Swinton did to get an Oscar nod for this. She was good, but really nothing special; and it's not necessarily her fault, as the script didn't offer much for her to do. A good movie, but I'm not sure it's "Best Picture" nomination worthy.
George Clooney ha crecido enormemente como actor, pasando de ser un simple extra a convertise en el Cary Grant moderno, convirtiendo en oro todo lo que toca, vale la pena tambien, por la ultima actuacion del fallecido Sydney Pollack.

this movie is definetly overated. the movie is so boring, only at the end gets a little bit better but nothing especial or something we haven't seen.
Just to say... I'm pretty sure Jennifer Ehle is not in this movie.. don't know why it says she is...anyway I wouldn't mind seeing it when it comes out =)
I thought this film was excellent. Beautifully shot, wonderful acting and gripping story line.

An engaging and intelligent thriller. About a "fixer" for a powerful law firm (George Clooney) who jumps into action when a colleague's (Tom Wilkinson) bizarre behavior jeopardizes the law firm. Great look at a world where questionable behavior leads to large financial rewards and it's easier to be complacent rather than to stand up for what's right. Clooney gives one of his best performances as a complex person whose morality is not so easily defined. Terrific acting by Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton as the firm's determined lawyer who will stop at nothing to defend a billion dollar lawsuit against the firms' cooperate client. The director, Tony Gilroy chose to frame the story as a flashback which is one of the things that can make the story hard to understand at times but eventually it all becomes clear. This is a movie with intelligence and demands no less of it's viewers.
i will really like to watch the film, cos iam yet to see it.Also being a great fan of Clooney.
I think Michael Clayton is really a good movie. and i want to watch this interesting movie.
