Plot: Three unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world.
i love the film cause i'm good at the game so it gives me pleassure wathcing and having more skills.
HAHA!! Mortal Kombat! Get over her...! Ahhh... This video game turned movie was and is a classic. Loved Scorpion dude. He was hot!
Haven't seen the entire thing from start to finish, but I am familiar of Mortal Kombat to have got the jist of it. It was kind of tacky, but still tolerable.
Effective soundtrack but... Boring,annoying and uncharismatic characters/actors,lame story,bad dialogues,crappy one-liners,dull performances,incoherent scenes,mediocre fighting scenes,bad lighting,tired special effects,poor directing...Sure,it's based on a game but come on!
I'm a huge fan of the game series and even though the critics and others wern't happy, I thought it was really good. It was really funny, with a good story, followed the video games, and overall had some of the most memorable fight scenes.
90s classic. weak on some levels but exciting on others. pretty fond memories of this which says something about how awful the 90s were for movies.
I loved it as a teenager, but by todays standards it doesn't stand up well. Some good fights, some bad fights, the acting is all bad, but at least the soundtrack is still cool. They did a good job finding a story out of the game, too bad it was handled so badly.
This movie gets three stars because even though it wasn't great, it was a pretty good film adaptation, many characters in the film resembled the ones in the game and it has Christopher Lambert, who beside being the greatest Rayden ever, he's Highlander. Enough said.
This Movie always boils my blood in a good way. Some Scenes are pure Adrenalin push. lol. I t is one of the Movie, I just love to watch. I have seen it about...I even quit counting....
The Stunts, the Quotes, the Plot, and ofcourse the Actors were great. They should have added some more Scenes for Scorpion and Subzero. But I m glad Scorpion is gonna have more Scenes in Mortal Kombat Devistation, though I really doubt that Devistation is gonna be so great like this one.
Advice
If you havent seen the other Mortal Kombats after this, you didnt miss anything, they all went in to Toilette!
But lets hope that Devistation is gonna be good.
Here some great Quotes
Lord Rayden: [appears before Cage, Sonya and Liu Kang] Listen, what you are about to face is for more important than...
[to Cage]
Lord Rayden: your ego
[to Sonya]
Lord Rayden: your enemy
[to Liu Kang]
Lord Rayden: or your quest for revenge. You're about to embark on a secret mission. You have been chosen to defend the realm of Earth. In a tournament called Mortal Kombat.
Shang Tsung: From this moment on, my island will be your battle ground.
[points to Liu Kang]
Shang Tsung: Liu Kang, you will be first. Let Mortal Kombat begin.
Johnny Cage: Don't worry, I've got a plan.
Sonya Blade: Oh, I can't believe this! You are the most egotistical, self-deluded person I have ever met!
Johnny Cage: Yeah, well you forgot good looking.
Johnny Cage: Those were 500 dollar sunglasses asshole.
Cage: [Takes first look inside the weird temple] Gee, I wonder what the bathroom looks like
Johnny Cage: I'm in a hostile environment. I'm totally unprepared. And I'm surrounded by a bunch of guys who probably want to kick my ass... it's like being back in high school.
Johnny Cage: All right? Let's dance.
Cool film, seen many of times, had it on video but no video to play on anymore so got rid, really need to get this on DVD...
I don't see why people love this piece of crap. This movie is DUMB. I love the first 2 video games but this movie sucks.
Paul Anderson and the writers of this disaster evidently never played the ultra-violent video game, or the studio told them to make it like this. Either way, this is NOT Mortal Kombat. The game had graphics that were at least a hard R if not NC-17. This movie was dreck. Someone needed Lou Kang to kick them out of the boardroom on this one. Sheesh.
When this is considerated the "best" thing that can come out from video game movie adaptations, it's no wonder why things are the way they are these days. When you're trying to be as good as a mere filler/week end movie, your standards will always be low no matter what.
Oh yeah, both Talissa Soto and Bridgette Wilson are in not enough movies these days.
Mortal Kombat was a surprisingly good movie, I really liked some of the fight scenes and the plot was well done, the only problem was the bad graphics they had back then. If they made this movie right now it would turn out awesome. Johnny Cage was the best.
Fuck no, this film teach me that videogames and cinema are a really bad combination.
Well, Talisa Soto was a good idea, but the rest is lame, and the worst part:
where is the fatalities?
oo if you now what this movie is and watch it a million times with me ur flippen awsome and i so need to have a movie night with you
This is what a "B" movie ought to be! Fast-paced, simple, and fun. Try not to have a good time watching this one.
the first and best of the mk movies.its basically a continuous setup for various fights between popular characters....but they do do them well and the characters do look good..scorpion being the best hehe
the look is dark and kinda goth and it does match well against the game.the forrest setting bein a nice sequence and the sub zero v scorpion battle.it is very shallow but it does the job well, which is rare for a computer game film.tagawa and lambert make the film really...they do inject some realistic feel into it and give it a much needed adult edge.
best to forget about the goro animatronic creation.
not bad though.....good soundtrack too.
'FIGHT!!'
F"$K YOU PAUL W.S. ANDERSON FOR RUINING AN IMMORTAL GAME SERIES AND TURNING INTO A CRAPPY PG-13 FILM! WHY????
66/100
This movie is one of those extremely rare successful video game movies. In fact, I think it's the only one. Its just plain enjoyment from start to finish.
Justins Best Bit: Start, finish and middle bits
This film holds a bit of nostalgia for me seeing how ever since I was a little kid I've been playing the Mortal Kombat video games. Not exactly the greatest acting in the world and the storyline was a bit choppy as expected from a movie like this, but I still really enjoy it whenever I get a chance to watch it. Brings me back to arguing with my siblings on who gets to be Scorpion.
This was about as good as could be expected considering it is a movie based on a video game. The fighting was pretty insane!
