Consider Mr. Brooks, a successful businessman, a generous philanthropist., a loving father and devoted husband. Seemingly, he's perfect. But, Mr. Brooks has a secret--he is an insatiable serial killer...( read more

A very well directed thriller film with a very interesting music score and very good performances! Yet, there is one thing that captivates you in this movie and that's William Hurt's performance! He is truly exceptional portraying Marshal, Mr.Brooks' "hunger for killing"! He acts in such ease and coolness that makes you wonder "how can an actor go so deep into his character?" Like I said, there are some really good performances in this film by Kevin Costner, Demi Moore, hell, even Dane Cook is kinda good! But William Hurt really puts the "Q" in "Quality" in this production!!!
This is some scarey shit! Especially because of who plays the Psycho, i think its alot like Dexter the TV show. This character really pulls you in, he's even affraid of his own demons. Watch it its brilliant!!
This was better than I thought.I liked the way he killed because he was addicted to it.Costner's character was very clever and that is always good to see.
Not a bad movie, some really great plot developments and Costner doing something well again! It justifies the 18 rated title towards the end. Demi Moore was also good, but I agree with another reviewer about the shoot out scene... Pretty comical for the wrong reasons!
Interesting look into the mind of a serial killer. Costner gives a good performance - I loved his alter-ego played by William Hurt - he was actually the best thing for me in this movie. Not liking Demi Moore in this - just never thought she could act (and still don't) and wasn't all that impressed with Dane Cook's performance either - but? The story in and of itself earns the stars here.
i loved this movie. a great psycological thriller. better than most slasher movies also. This did seem like it was done before tho, but i liked this film in particular.
not a waste of time, but not my favorite kind of movie either. I'm sick of criminals with split personalities as a plot device, btw.
I was pleasantly surprised by Mr. Brooks. It's a fine thriller with some decent twists. However, I wasn't much impressed with Dane Cook's acting skills.
I loved this movie not only for my favorite actors and actress but also for the strong story and its surprises all around the movie, from the begining to the end
Back in the early ?90s, few would have described Kevin Costner as compelling. The star of such white-bread heroic fare as Field Of Dreams, he was also, as evidenced in 1991?s In Bed With Madonna, sickeningly wholesome.
But from Clint Eastwood?s A Perfect World onwards, Costner began offering fascinating studies in flawed Everymen. And while Open Range?s Civil War killer and The Upside Of Anger?s boozy pitcher felt like familiar Costner territory, his portrayal of a millionaire who?s also a schizophrenic psycho might well be the performance of his career.
Owner of the fittingly square Brooks Box Factory, Costner?s anti-hero is a smart, in-control businessman with an adoring wife (CSI?s Marg Helgenberger) and a daughter (Danielle Panabaker) in college.
But from an opening scene in which Brooks recites the Twelve-Step Serenity Prayer into a washroom mirror, we realise all this composure is merely keeping the demons in check. Lurking in the shadows, as Mr. and Mrs. B. return from a business banquet, is his dark half, Marshall (Hurt), suggesting a little out-of-office double-murder. Part childlike id, part fatherly superego, Marshall is the film?s masterstroke.
Like Costner, Hurt has lost his beatific blond ?80s looks, replaced by a bloodless pallor that was perfectly utilised in Cronenberg?s A History Of Violence. Here he looks like Death, a wheedling, mocking incubus who?s a joy to watch. ?C?mon,? he drawls, knowing that Brooks has been attending AA meetings to dampen his ?desires?, ?You deserve a treat!?
Costner and Hurt?s double-act is so elegantly developed it?s a real blow when screenwriters Bruce A. Evans and Reynold Gideon pile on noisy sub-plots. Dane Cook brings a nefarious glint to his ?Mr. Smith?, blackmailing Brooks into murder lessons, but Moore?s wooden Det. Atwood is a narrative mess - a millionaire cop undergoing a divorce and marked for death by a meth-crazy serial killer! When it?s revealed that Brooks? daughter might also have inherited her father?s ?passions? you doubt for the film?s survival, but Marshall and Earl deal with every obstacle like sardonic script-doctors, commenting on the goofy twists while reaching for some kind of resolution.
In the end, despite Demi Moore and your own sense of decency, you want the deadly duo to succeed and, as Marshall succinctly puts it, ?go on with our tortured lives?.
Very surprising movie, I really ejoy it. This is not a commum movie of Kevin Costner, itīs really different and violent!
I was surprised to see how good this film was. Interesting story that never bored me and Kevin Costner puts in a great performance.
Was worth a watch. I'm not a huge fan of movies that have you liking and rooting for the villain. But story wise this film was well done. I never thought I would have said this but Kevin Costner is simply better (in all ways) than Dane Cook. Get mad all you want but sooner or later, after all that Dane love drains out of your system, you'll realize he'll always be the same. Every time he through down the F-bomb in this film, whether it was an angry one, scared one, doesn't matter...It always sounded like it was a high point in one of his jokes! Oh, and does anyone else think Demi Moore is a crummy actress?
Once again, i put the dvd on without expecting a great movie. But in fact, it was a really good movie. I like Costner a lot and he has the charms and looks it takes for such a role. Obviously William Hurt is awesome as his alter ego, it gives class and they go well together. Loved the end, very unpredictable and it was kinda funny and scary to think of it. Bloody genes :-)
I liked this film very much, i consider it to be costners best, he portrays his character with large doses of sporadic intensity. Hurt is also great as his 'hero'. I cant think of many bad things to say about it, its just a shame demi moore is in it, and there is a realy really stupid shootout scene in it. for that reason it loses a whole star.
brillant story.but cast is wrong i think.i like William Hurt' acting in this one.weird.finale is good too.
Wonderfully acted, interesting and twisted take on the serial killer story. I loved it! Here I thought Kevin Costner couldn't make a good movie anymore. I'm happy to have been proven wrong.
aaaaaargh!!! another disappointment, this movie has so many things and it was so... empty, i dont feel really atracted to see it, while i was watching it i did a lot of different stuff because i was bored....
This movie is crazy. It is like wow. So entertaining. Kevin did really well. Its one of those movies that will keep you on your feet. Amazing

AWWWWWSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! I LOVE DIS MOVIE EVEN THO ITS FREAKY. I NEVER KNEW DANE COOK WAZ IN IT THO...
Who is Mr. Brooks? He's the "Man of the Year," and also the Thumbprint Killer, (Kevin Costner). An alluring thriller! Great performances by William Hurt as the alter ego, Demi Moore as an investigator, and Dane Cook as a blackmailer who frames Mr. Brooks into taking him along on a murder.
Great movie...worth watching. A movie that makes u smile after watching to show how much u really enjoyed it.
It's been a while since I've actually enjoyed a movie that involved Costner. The entirety of this movie was done well. It was psychotic without being overzealous, smart without being pretentious, and subtle without being boring.
