Based on a true story, Denzel Washington plays a high school football coach that tries to bridge race and animosity in a local community to make a difference in the lives of his players. This inpirational story is well done, and a pleasure to watch. (For younger viewers, there is a strange locker room scene with a kiss that may be confusing to children).

The story does a good job of involving the viewer without being overlyheavy. You genuinely become interested in the players as well as the larger background of integration. Put together nicely.

This is just a beautiful film, in all its wonder and excitment, and with the underlining contention of racial difference it makes this a most thrilling watch.
Everytime I watch the ending scence, when Bertier, played by Ryan Hurst , is hit by the car and is unable to walk. The scene where he tells the nurse that Julius played by Wood Harris, is his brother always makes me cry, but not as hard as the finishing scene. Which want spoil for those who haven't seen it.
It is a must watch, espicially for the girls out there who dislike sport related movies, this will completely change your opinion, not mention you get to see a young Ryan Gosling. -

An outstanding movie of inspiration and rising above racism. Not to be compared with We are Marshall however. Two different stories and backgrounds. This is a must see. One you can watch with the family.

The tons of comparisons to the hugely acclaimed "Coach Carter" may have pulled this potential flick down.
It's still considered to be a good movie, mainly due to the formidable Denzel Washington performance.
Julius' and Gerry's relationship was really profound and special and was the essence of the whole story and showed the success of coach Boone bringing whites and blacks together. -
