MCT:November 18, 2008Nothing in this movie is real but the actors. Taking a similar approach like "Sin City" this one isn't a dark detective thriller but an extremely entertaining homage to B-adventure and -sci-fi-movies of the 30s. Even the camera work and editing is mirroring that attempt, which might be a bit odd in the beginning for modern viewers, but has its very own charm. So the film takes all the elements of said movies: giant robots, mad scientists, valleys hiding forgotten kingdoms, secret islands with dinosaurs and rocket launch bases, and creates the funnest adventure Indiana Jones never had. Surely, none of the big names of the cast (Law! Paltrow! Jolie!) has live up their acting potential here, and some of the dialoges pretty much follow the standards of action movies. But the movie doesn't take itself too serious, the effects are great and gorgeous to look at and there is pretty much non-stop action. It's just a fun ride. Sadly, the big audience missed out on this highlight of the genre.

This was a cool futuristic movie. The cool CGI effects in the movie was pretty awesome with the special lighting. Was supposed to be somewhat of a 40's theme, with the way the characters looked and dressed, yet it was set in the future. Kinda weird, but it was an awesome movie. Cool adventure action movie. :)

Satirical dialogue + unique cinematography + star-studded cast = 2 hours of delicious entertainment. I love the futuristic yet oldschool backdrop, the machines and the fashion-forward costumes. :)

A homage to Old Hollywood and the cheaply made, but oh-so-fun 40s serials where you can tell everyone involved was having way too much fun playing pretend. If Indiana Jones had Star Wars-level technology to play with, those movies might have looked something like this. Angelina Jolie's character and crew are the most ass-kicking thing I've seen in quite some time. Long story short, I want a flying military station at my disposal. And Fleischer inspired robot designs are better than you are.

Gwyneth Paltrow como reportera, con su cámara Leica y elegantemente vestida, luce de lo más guapa como pocas veces. Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (2004), es un alucinante filme que constituye todo un homenaje a los seriales de aventuras y films noir de los años 1930 y 1940. Polly (Gwyneth Paltrow) encarna a la emblemática figura de la reportera del crimen, luciendo a algo parecido entre Katharine Hepburn y Rita Hayworth, enamorada del héroe que tiene como misión salvar al mundo.
Sky Captain tiene los efectos especiales más espectaculares que he visto últimamente, tomando en cuenta que está dirigida por el debutante Kerry Conran. Resulta delirante en cada uno de sus planos, con una marcada referencia a los antiguos seriales, por ejemplo, de Superman, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Angelina Jolie luce una extraña belleza ?dominatrix?, como una general del ejercito aliado británico, al mando de un ?trasatlántico? que viaja por los cielos, y si bien no hay suficiente chispa romántica entre la pareja protagónica, el gran valor de Sky Captain and.... radica en la manera en cómo rescata por igual la estética del cómic antiguo, con todo y una banda sonora de matices cercanos a las de las películas de aventuras en las matinés de antaño.

A decent attempt at something different. An ok story line and plenty of action. It has a similar visual style as Sin City with nearly all CGI backgrounds and environments but tweaked slightly to give a comic book feel to it. Well worth checking out if you have missed it so far.

Kind of silly/dumb. Relatively amusing though. Really plays on the basic human fear of giant killer robots invading our cities and stealing our electricity. Not a real thinker, but okay.

Everything an adventure movie could and should be. Beautiful to look at, characters you can root for, action, romance, humor, great special effects, and a score that's truly one of the most perfect scores I've ever heard make this one of my favorite films.

An absolutely stunning film - there is so much to appreciate visually in every single frame. The designs are so classic sci-fi, it's gorgeous! The story is cliched - but the writer/director Kerry Conran knows it, and really plays it up. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

So far this has turned out to be one of my favourite films of all time. Nothing deep or overly flashy, but for somebody like me who enjoys pulp sci-fi action, art deco design and a good, fun storyline, 'Sky Captain...' has been hard to top.

There are a lot of people that didn't like this movie but I just love it! The ambiance of it was priceless. There a LOT of little details in the movie that you can miss if you watch carefully. Great actors. The only bad thing is that the main villain was dead even before of the beginning of the story. Still, it was an excellent project.

It sometimes feels like you're watching a computer-animated film. The cast is good, but the acting is too cheesy. The plot was acceptable and the visuals were outstanding, but those elements do not make a film for themselves. This movie lacked of good acting, direction and development.

It was pretty good, but I feel that the crazy all on green screen idea took away from the movie as a whole. There were plenty of times when you noticed the fakeness of the actors' interaction with their environment. Still, it was successful at bringing a 1930s era Superman cartoon feel to it.

MCT:May 21, 2008Wanted to see this movie for ages and caught it on television, and i was really disappointed. I didn't enjoy it at all, I was exicted by the cast list but found that I wasn't impressed with the acting at all, bad special effects, really really bad acting.

MCT:May 19, 2008A boring, lifeless throwback to 1950s style storytelling with modern day special effects. Terrible, murky looking backdrop and cheesy "gee wizz" acting and dialog. What is Kerry Conran doing now? Hopefully developing a better a movie.

A sci-fi film of a truly oldschool sensibility, made with a sylish retro-futuristic aesthetic. Although the visuals (filmed entirely on greenscreen) are the major attraction here, there's a pretty neat little story here about pulp hero Sky Captain and his battle with a mad scientist and his evil robotic minions.
If you're a fan of classic sci-fi, you won't want to miss this one. -
