In South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime, young undercover cop Billy Costigan is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello. While Billy is quickly gaining Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan, a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that there's a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy--and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself. Martin Scorsese's The Departed was a masterpiece, everything about this film was great. The acting by Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonardo DeCaprio was amazing. The action scenes in this film were great as well as exctitng to watch. If you like mafia films then you will like this one. One of Martin Scorsese's best.

"Frank, how many of these guys have been with you long enough to be disgruntled, huh? Think about it. You don't pay much, you know. It's almost a fuckin' feudal enterprise. The question is, and this is the only question, who thinks that they can do what you do better than you?"*
"When you decide to be something, you can be it. That's what they don't tell you in the church. When I was your age they would say we can become cops, or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?"*
"I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me."*

To me this is how film making should be. The writing, dialogue, acting, plot, cinematography all top notch! I felt what Leo's character was feeling to the point where i thought I'd need a valuim to calm down. It was outstanding!
It was a very good movie. Matt Damon was clearly relishing the part of the informant to Jack Nicholson's character. Fantastic acting from all the cast but I found that it dragged in places and left me waiting for it to end.
this movie is great and jack nicholson was amazing and martin scorsese is the best director its so good its next to goodfellas as the best mob movie and jack diserved a oscar nomination but just like any scorses movie he got robed
Great cast, lots of violence. Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic. Not sure what message the writers intended since everyone basically ends up dead. Liked the rat on the balconey in the last scene. Maybe that rats will inherit the Earth?
This movie kicks ass. I think its Marty's best since Goodfellas. Leo, Matt, Jack, and Mark gave great performances. Loved it. The best movie of the year so far.
The Departed has to be the best Jack Nicholson movie in years!! his performance in this film has to be his greatest ever film performance. The Departed is about the Irish Mafia in modern day Boston and the informant state detective who brings him down.Flixster - Share Movies
Brilliant performances from Matt Damon,Leonardo DiCaprio,
Alec Baldwin,Mark Wahlberg,Anthony Anderson, and Martin Sheen. Martin Scorsese directs his greatest ever gangster movie and as to be the best movie of 2006. The Departed is just as good as , goodfellas,Mean Streets, and Gangs of New York as one of the best !!
Brilliant movie by Scorsese, actually has a plot. A thriller journey through the lives of two undercover cops on the opposite sides of the law. Great ensemble performance from some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
A great cast highlights a fantastic script and direction from one of the finest directors of our time.
Wow what a great movie, top Actors. Jack Nicholsen is the New Untocheble in town. Is was also funny. its realy deserved the Ocsar for best picture, cuz it was.
Martin Scorsese continues to be best at making mob films. This movie has great action, great plot. great EVERYTHING. This is by far one of the best movies ever made.
It deserves every award it won. I like that Damon played the bad cop because that's not the kind of person he comes off as being. It was extremely intense and edgy.
LOL! Did you see his head get blown off at the end, SWEET! LOL
Great film tho, good acting by Leo
I LOVED this movie. The only part I didn't like was the female; I didn't buy her being from Boston and I didn't really see any chemistry. That aside, the acting was brilliant. I realize that this is supposed to be a serious drama, but this movie has some of the best lines. I am not usually a Mark Wahlberg fan, but he had great dialogue and he did a good job delivering it. Matt Damon was good. Nichelson was genius as always and this was another good performance turned in by Leo Dicaprio.
a hell of a movie! , and my favorite as well :D
the plot it's a little complicated, I had to watch it 2 times to understandit to the fullest. the cast was amazing!
So much cussing. :P
I watched a YouTube video where it was only the word "fuck" and it was like 3 minutes long. :D
Amazzinngg movie though.
Loved all of it. :D
No complaints. :]
A lesson for remakers: instead of westernizing it to the point of boredom, embrace it and make it your own.
Pretty good movie. The story has some kickass moments and the actors are excellent. Bad thing is... It is too long for it's own good.
this is one of the best drama crime & gangster moves to date. i enjoyed every minute of this movie. it has an amzing cast who all do very well especially leonardo dicaprio. i tell ya that boy might still be young actor but he is one of the youngest rising actors out there. it did brillant so did mark wahlberg, matt damon, & jack nicolson. i watch this movie almost everyday b/c it so entertaining & i never get bored watching it. i recomend for who hasnt seen this film yet go out & buy it. its worth every penny trust me.
Mob drama set in Bostons south side. featuring an all star cast this film fails to disappoint. Scorsese at his best.

Exactly. What does the swearing have to do with anything? You've heard the words before, get over it.
What does the amount of swearing have to do with the quality of the film?
ooh too much swearing. it made the movie unworthy of winning the oscar.
well I haven't watched this film but I did like leonardo Dicaprio in Titanic I wonder how he would be like in this film.
great movie! I am not a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio at all. He has never made a movie that I have liked him in, but I loved him in this one. He was great, he did such a good job with his character, I was so impressed with it!!!
I liked the movie but preferred the original Hong Kong Release. Another remake coming to American Screens is European film 'Funny games'.
