1. Spin off of the greatness the Lord of the rings
2. Guillermo Del Toro's creation . There will be lots of unique creatures .

Guillermo del Toro is an excellent director. I cannot wait for this movie to come out. I believe that del Toro will do Tolkien proud.

He should have directed Star Wars Ep. 1-3.
CGI should only be used as filler or where no other option is possible.
Of course a lot of CGI were used in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy; it pretty much needed it for quite a few things that wouldn't have come across very well on screen.
Background scenes that are matte painted with CGI mixed in or pure CGI and characters like Gollum that need it and so on.
Those films never went overboard though as they very well could have. The Orcs and Goblins for instance were real actors in make-up.
I'm hoping that when they come to the scenes with Smaug that they use more stop motion, like the film Dragonslayer used, with a combination of CGI where needed to smooth out the jerkiness of stop motion.
The dragon in that film LOOKED so real. A winged lizard, right down to it's scales.
The hardest part of making a great fantasy film is to make things look believable.
The Lord Of The Rings trilogy accomplished this.
I hope this comes as close. -

I heard about this a few months ago and ever since I found out that Guillermo Del Toro was directing i've been excited.
I'm just hoping that this adaptation sticks more to the original plot and i'm sure Guillermo Del Toro will be able to do an admirable job, as did Peter Jackson with The Lord Of The Rings Triology. -

Just when you think you've said goodbye to Middle Earth for good, it comes back to you with what is sure to be of the same terrific quality as the Lord of The Rings films. Sure, Peter Jackson may no longer be the director, but from what I've gathered, he is involved enough for us fans to be able to breathe a sigh of relief. Besides, Guillermo Del Toro is almost as fantastic of an director, and does respect the source material, so I think it's fair to say that this movie won't disappoint. I'm still kind of worried about how "The Hobbit 2" will turn out though, as it will not be directly based on any of Tolkien's novels, but rather something of Jackson's and Del Toro's own creation. But ah well, the more we get from that dream team the better, because at least they know how to do fantasy the right way.

I'm not a fan of the whole lord of the rings thing, and frankly I find them slightly overrated but I'm willing to give the hobbit a shot because I love del toro's work

I've been hoping for a while that they would bring out the hobbit and it should be a great film if its anything like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Im a bit gutted that Peter Jackson isn't directing it because he done an amazing job in turning the LOTR novels into the films but if im correct Sir Ian Mckellen is keeping his role of Gandalf which is the best news. But the new director hopefully will make the Hobbit into a brilliant film

The director is going to be Peter Jackson, who directed the Lord of the Rings, and is said to be quite a good film-maker so I have great expectations for the movie.
