Plot: Two sisters contend for the affection of King Henry VIII.
ok. book adaptation. the only person that i thought fit exactly the role was eric bana as king henry. he fit the description perfectly. i personally like the book better
This movie is far less substantial than the book of the same name, and not a faithful visual companion to it, but nevertheless, it is a good movie in its own right. It is helpful to have a background knowledge of Tudor history, and the court of King Henry VIII before watching the movie, as it tends to skim over some pretty important events. The dismissal of Katherine of Aragon from court, the annulment of her marriage to Henry, and subsequent break from the Catholic Church is pretty much a blink and you'll miss it scene, believe it or not!
This is visually stunning, though , and the costumes are fabulous. Natalie Portman gives an amazing performance as Anne Boleyn, while Johansson is also impressive as Mary. Even though this was meant to be Mary's story, I felt that the focus was almost entirely on Anne. Mary was pushed into the background, not only as 'The other Boleyn Girl', but also by Portman's performance. Also, I didn't warm to the character of Mary Boleyn at all as I did while reading the book. Philippa Gregory's writing lends itself to great character study, while this movie, I felt, skimped a bit.
A good film, however quite contradictory of other films and the sereies The Tudors. The cast was brilliant.
After reading the book, I knew what the general storyline was supposed to be like. It was really great to see the beautiful costumes and sets but there were some missing points of the plot that NEEDED to be included to understand the basis of some characters' actions.
Natalie Portman shines in this movie. Great acting. However, Scarlett Johanson was rather dimmed if compare to Natalie. After all, both of them did a very well job portraying how women used to be puppets that being used to obtained power and wealth.
A lot got cut out. if you hadn't read the book, it gets a bit tricky to understand=) I found the acting great and it definitely got my attention
This movie was so interesting, kept my attention throughtout!! I cannot believe how thier father and uncle USED them for their own wealth and sercurity!! Sickened me! Such great acting had by Natalie Portman!!! OMG!!!! I highly recommend this movie!
Despite the talent involved, this movie was just okay - nothing special. Three standout points:
1. Natalie Portman has tremendous talent as an actress;
2. Scarlett Johansson actually acted quite well in this film. She hardly annoyed me at all; and
3. Eric Bana was more brooding looks than acting, but I guess he played his part.
Despite the fact, that this movie is anything than historically correct, there are events taking place in here, the viewer cannot understand without knowledge of that exact history.
The cast is well chosen.
I haven't read the book and probably won't, but I enjoyed the movie. I've never thought of Natalie Portman in a role like this, but she certainly carried it off. I was surprised by how much I liked this film.
A riveting movie that has a remarkable script, splendid costumes and a musical score that superbly captures the emotions of the film. Natalie Portman delivers a phenomenal performance.
You know as messed up as this movie was with the whole family in the interest of more power and what they were willing to do to get it...This movie was pretty dang good.
This movie, starting out will remind you somewhat of pride and prejudice, but trust me, its nothing like it! Many twists and turns. I really, really loved this movie!
God I love Natalie. She was so damn good in this. I wish they would have casted Natalie and Keira instead though. They look alike and they are both wicked when they want to be, it would have made a more interesting story.
Superb superb superb. Great acting great story great directing great music. This is a movie that will grip you from start to finish.... Beautiful film
A costume drama set in the Tudor's era, based off the book of the same name. The novel being a historical fiction (inspired by actual people and events). In truth though there is really not much known about Anne Boleyn's history, the mystery as to what her life was like is what inspired the author to create a story for Anne.
The movie bounced too much and would have lost me if I had not read the book. While the movie plot did deviate from the book (as they all normally do), Anne Boleyn's character was played a little too sweetly.
The film has its fair share of problems, yes, but like a bad soap opera, it just kept me glued to screen; much of this, of course, was thanks to Natalie Portman's wicked little schemes and fantastic performance. Ana Torrent was underused, though, and what the hell happened to Scarlett Johansson? This has got to be her worst performance.
Unbelievably good plot. A great cast come together to make this historical period worth noting and pondering about...another great performance by Natalie Portman

WOW I almost cried at how much it was bas compared to the book. THE BOOK WAS AMAZING, bu this? This was a joke.
i enjoyed the film a lot, the book is obviously better but if you just look at the film as a seperate thingyou can see how amzing it is.
it totally ruined the story!! especially since i read the book i was expecting more. i personally think the movie was too short. the freaking book was bigger than a harry potter book!
ok so this really has nothing to do with the acutal move. But it does have something to do with the theme. (if you are reading this pease dont stop and help andswer my question it is of high importance) so here it is:
Do any of you know how and or where to get clips of music that was listened to durring the time that anne boleyn really lived? You know queen elizabeth and king henry the eighth!!! Please i need this for an assignment which sucks!! anything will help im having no luck. this is a last resort!! thanks lots of love

Christinewannabe47 - This isn't actually a series, Gregory wrote The Other Boylen Girl well before any of her other Tudor books. Her series is called Wideacre. Although I've yet to read Wideacre, i have read all her Tudor books, and her one on slave trading, and they are all fabulous.
Personally I think the movie ruined the book. It completely misrepresented the relationships between ALL characters, left out countless important plot points, and just well sucked. Plus it totally missed the point that Mary is The Other Boleyn Girl! It made out Anne was. We've always known about Anne Mary's the forgotten Boleyn Girl, We even know more about Little Kitty Howard, and Mary's daughter with Henry (who was by the way not included in the movie) then we do about Mary herself... So how could they misinterpret that Mary was the other Boleyn Girl? And they ruined George who i adored!
ruined one of my favourite books and favourite historical character. Eric bana and scarlett were barely trying and her acting was not brilliant.
Natalie Portman was very good tho.
READ THE BOOK!
now i HAVE 2 read the book!!! and if the book is as good as u guys say its is then i will most definitely c the movie!!! after i read the book of course...
