The best Marvel Comic movie made. No superpowers. Just pure human skill...the way it should be. Awesome shoot-outs and killing scenes.

So many cool parts, but one of my favorites is where he goes up against the gargantuan Russian! Couldn't believe that guy was Kevin Nash! Soooo worth 5 stars.

The second best movie of 2004. It is one of the best films i have ever ever seen, two great castings for good and bad and absolutely great action. And it with this that i cast it as the best Marvel Comic by movie going. It is definitely a must see for those who like good movies. A great film and not a high budget also, proves that the best films do not need massive budget

Brilliant...A comic-book movie that isn't dependent on CGI effects to tell its story but on strong performances by Jane and Travolta.

Most of this SUCKED big time, and just made me angry. It tells the story of a "good guy", whose family is killed by the bad guy. After that the movie is all about the good guy doing the same thing to the bad guy, but "It's not vengence - it's justice". No, vengence is just what it was, no metter how you try to angle it.

If you look at any society in the world you see that fighting violence with equally brutal violence doesn't make things better. And it's not really that hard to imagine, since what you do is that you show that you think that kind of violence is acceptable, and provoke more people to violence. It's basically the "An eye for an eye" rule, and no matter how much you believe in it, it has shown over and over again that it just doesn't work.

Wow. I really loved this movie, although I was a bit disappointed with the way they played out the character of John Travolta, Howard Saint. Travolta's well-known for his ruthlessness whenever he steps up to the villain's shoes, but by the time Thomas Jane was extracting his revenge, he became some bloke barking out orders to his minions (plus, he was easily fooled into thinking that Quentin, his gay best friend, and his lovely wife, Liv, were cheating on him), instead of going out there and actually meeting Jane face-to-face.
Other than that, this film was a total joy to watch, loved every second, and I wouldn't mind a sequel.

Not much action.. but The Punisher sure did show lots of intellect and good tactics.. He was just one man but was able to bring down the whole gang.. It only shown what made or turned the Punisher into THE Punisher.

A still from The Punisher Pictures, Images and Photos the punisher is a great action packed movie. thomas jane played a great punisher. he was very vicious, brutal, & emotional just how the punisher is. thats wat makes him a good punisher. this is a very entertaining movie. it had a bunch of nonstop action sequences with gunfights & explosions. john travolta played a great bad guy. his acting was great just like everyone elses on screen. i cant wait for the 2nd punisher movie. i heard tom jane is not going to play the punisher but thats ok. he stole this movie with his performance. just hope the next punisher is just as good as he was as the punisher. overall i recommend this movie for action fans. its a movie that u dont wont to miss, awesome action flick 4/5 stars

Oh man, I TRIED to get into this modern-day "Count of Monte Cristo" tale but...ugh. First of all, none of the actors really acted. It was like kids on a playground. Second, the dialogue was absolutely horrendous. "In jail you don't get a wrist slap, you get bitch-slapped"...? Puh-lease! I laughed out loud at that one. Just a total waste of time, and further proof of why I hate most comic book based or super hero based movies.

"We just made your bail. Now if I wanted to kill you, I would have left you in jail where we have friends, and in some way that I would describe as deeply pornographic, you would have been killed. But you're a small piece of shit... and I don't want the karma of your death on my soul. "

There are two things stopping this movie from being more appealing to general audiences: 1) two pointless characters ("Lard ass" and Piercings) who seem more like props, and B) the lack of a strong score (there was very little, if any, emotion instilling music). The reason the score is important is because audiences love contrast; they need tones to punctuate good and bad feelings. Because the film relies mainly on violent imagery (which is not a bad thing), most people probably feel like it's a chore watching this movie; having to pay attention and keep up with the plot and characters, rather than relaxing and having musical sounds and undertones spell it out for them. - It's easy to see why this film could become a cult classic... and that should provide ample evidence as to why most other people won't be as mesmerized by it.

"Well, I don't want you to say 'shit'; I want you to answer me..."

The Punisher: Those who do evil to others - the killers, the rapists, psychos, sadists - you will come to know me well. Frank Castle is dead. Call me The Punisher.

I like that this movie is developing as a cult comic book movie, because I enjoy watching it. It makes the right choice in sticking to it's dark tone for the most part and being R-rated, this is the Punisher, there are no super powers to wrap bad guys up in web and take them to the police, no the Punisher kills people and he does so by using all the weapons at his disposal.

Micky Duka: What's the torch for?
Frank Castle: 2000 degrees, Mick. Enough to turn steel into butter.
    [sighs]
Frank Castle: It won't hurt at first. It's too hot, you see? The flame sears the nerve endings shut, killing them. You'll go into shock... and all you'll feel is... cold. Isn't science fun, Mickey?

Tom Jane stars as Frank Castle, a former FBI agent, who has served his time in the field and decides to retire. However, in his last job, he gets a guy killed who turns out to be the son of a local mob boss, Howard Saint.

The result is a massacre, where Saint orders a job on Castles entire family during a party for him. Every one is killed, including his wife and son.

Castle somehow survives, only to go on to settle the score.

Candelaria: Vaya con Dios, Castle. Go with God.
Frank Castle: God's going to sit this one out.

Tom Jane does exactly what he needs to for this movie. He is tall, dark, and brooding. He tosses all of his lines as if he was writing a long suicide note.

Frank Castle: It's been five months since my family was killed. I don't see ONE man in jail.
Police Chief Morris: Obviously you're upset...
Frank Castle: Upset? Is that the word? I used to get upset. When I got a flat tire, when a plane was delayed. I used to get *upset* when the Yankees won the series. So if that's what upset means, what am I feeling now? If you know the word, tell me because I don't.

John Travolta is alright as the lead villain, but the fun really comes from all the other action taking place, which is done with almost all practical effects.

Interesting enough, this movie, Kill Bill Vol. 2 and Man on Fire all came out at the same time, and they all contain some elaborate death scenes and the revenge theme. Just wanted to point that out.

It also helps that the supporting cast includes Roy Schieder as Frank's father, Will Patton, Rebecca Romijin, and Ben Foster.

Some problems arise when dealing with how to raise the tone a bit, but the whole style of the film ranges from fairly well done to pretty cool.

It's been made mostly as a 70s action movie, which works for the type of hero that The Punisher is.

Overall, you have good action, good fights with a couple of comic book level villains, dark and fun.

The Punisher: I have work to do. Read your newspaper everyday and you'll understand.
    Joan: Which section?
    The Punisher: The obituaries.

Mislabeled The Punisher, this film is really about Frank Castle's unfortunate loss of his family and subsequent revenge, which in the process turns him into the Punisher as he is seen a the end. But throughout the movie he is Castle, vigilante-in-training and it's done very well. Great acting by the tough-as-nails Tom Jane and a good performance by John Travolta, though at times he seems kind of unsure about the film. I liked it and think it leads very well right into a sequel...if they ever make one?

With a grainy '70s inspired look at the hands of Director Jonathan Hensleigh, The Punisher definitely doesn't have the feel of a conventional comic book movie. Adding to its realistic, quasi-Mad Max inspiration, is the use of more traditional weaponry and believable fight choreographies, instead of over the top, gravity-defying stunts and CGI effects. Despite its flaws, this flick has a tight story and well-developed characters. Thomas Jane captures The Punisher's hard on the outside, soft of the inside qualities, while a steady stream of action keeps the plot and pace of the film moving briskly.

a great film starring Jonh Travolta and Tom Jane. the story: after his wife and family are killed, G-Man Frank Castle takes it upon himself to distribute punishment to those responsible for the vendetta. kind of like Blade and simillar films to that. the film is based on the PS2 game. if you like the film then you will definetly like the game. never thought they would make a film of the comic book character. great film.

Growing up reading The Punisher comics, I was pleased to see this rather faithful adaptation. The action is filmed with a 70s sensibility. No CGI, all in camera stunts and a certain grittiness that sets it in the real world. Thomas Jane is perfectly cast (a shame he's not doing the sequel) and the violence is fittingly brutal. (Major highlight - fight with the Russian.) Ultimately, this movie is nothing to write home about (it's story is very similar to Mad Max) but for Punisher fans it's a much better adaptaion than the earlier Dolph Lundgren version. The recent extended cut includes additional scenes with supporting characters, like the FBI agent who betrays Frank Castle. Also, the opening animated sequence is a nice tribute to the comics.

This is most definately one of my fave movies, up in the top 3. Travolta is an excellent villain, wiping out a mans entire family, but he gets his just desserts, dont worry. This film is very violent, but worth the watch, definately.
