O mais interessante é que o Nicholas Cage sempre teve essa cara de loser, e neste filme ele fica o perfeito perdedor. Dá até pena dele. É um filme interessante, mas não me diverti muito nele.
One of my guilty pleasures. The story goes nowhere, but the original score is extremely tantalizing. Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine made the perfect father-son pair. Cage perfectly defined the anguish felt by his overly-depressed character. I never thought that I could derive sheer entertainment from a plot speaking of no sense at all.
I loved how they chucked food at him and then stopped when he was carrying a bow and arrow, i also loved how it was about a normal person coping with everyday issues and it had no dramatic action in it
Verbinski seeks to show his range as a director in the midst of his Pirates franchise. Wise career decision IF you have range....
after minute :
Surely having a blurred purpose and less-quality scenes . As sleepy-maker as National Treasure ,watching (the boring) Nicolas Cage all over the movie. The Review
Story :
Surely confusing me , i don't know what i want to give . But , i saw American Beauty-ness here , a brain conflict plus a mixed blurred drama as additions to the American Beauty-ness ,and the ending didn't satisfy me ,it's show-less and blurred(and what's with the archery thing?) .
Script :
A word "Fuck!" said in thousand(or maybe countless) times by almost all of the character and it's quite annoying . again :"Fuck You!" -David Spirtz-
Directing :
Well , if you compare it to Pirates of The Carribean trilogy , it failed a lot , Gore Verbinski made this movie a bit' boring a less unique , he's better as adv. movie's director.
View :
Clean , snowy and white-ish , it's a "white" version of American Beauty,
Cinematography :
Simple and usual , just as same as third-world qualified movie cinematography with a little dreamy slow-motioning which only effected a bit' in the movie itself.
Casting :
Nicolas Cage as David Spritz . He's the number one cast here ,he acted as a wierd and stressed David Spritz , he made a David Spritz .
Michael Caine as Robert Spritz , the goodman of the series , acting as a great soon-to-be-dead old man with great forgettable words . His role isn't memorable .
I say nothing to other casts . But , the little girl played her role as better as Cage .
Overall :
a good time-spending movie with less excitement and less-lovable script and scenes .
It's like a American Beauty + Modern times Big Fish + Gore Verbinski repackaging = here comes The Weather man.
It was ok. Basically entertaining, a bit over-emotional - typically Hollywood. And I really don't know what this movie wanted to tell us in the end.
Best Cage film ever. He over acts and blah blah but he was perfect for this film. This movie makes me die laughing. It's one of the funniest movies I've seen to date. I feel like if this would have been an indie movie with an un-heard of cast, people would have slobbed on this film's knob like it was Juno. If you're an indie elitist douche, look past the cast and everything else and watch this film. If you don't like it, you chose not to before you even saw it.
Not just an average drama, maybe it doesn't have the 'hollywood fairy-tale ending' but this movie has aplus of being very realistic
This is life, gonna accept. Accept those things u cannot change; change the things u can change; pray for the wishdom to differentiate the above 2 issues.
el director Gore Verbinski sigue dando muestras de su talento, tras dirigir la exitosa saga "piratas del caribe" crea una tragicomedia ligera, recordable y que contiene una de las mejores actuaciones de Nicolas Cage.
pretty powerful movie, another good job by Nicholas Cage, loved Michael Caine as always. I was kinda sad at the end.
i can't understand why so many people seem to undervalue this movie...he's not one of my favourite actors but i really liked Cage's performance...yes this movie made me like Nicholas Cage...and all the actors were great...Michael Caine as always...and Hope Davis...and Gill Bellows...Nicholas Holt...the little girl who portrayed Cage's daughter...everything is so down to earth and yet so profound...that's what i like about it...after watching it i wanted to watch it again and i also wanted to learn how to shoot arrows with a bow...

Dave Spritz: Always fast food. Fast food. Things that people would rather throw out than finish. It's easy, it tastes all right, but it doesn't really provide you any nourishment. I'm fast food.
Nic Cage is great as the sad sack, loser weather man, and that's really what the movie is about, and it's nice to see him try to better himself, and I care when he does.
This is a fun dark comedy, with plenty of moments that ring true to life. The dialog between the characters, especially the swearing is all authentic and something that feels real for the moment.
This movie shares a lot with American Beauty, although not as deep or concurrent with the same themes, it has the same attitude.
As mentioned, Cage plays Dave Spirtz, a Chicago weatherman who is divorced with two kids and has a father he believes doesn't care too much for him. With a chance to get a good promotion, Dave wants to try harder at succeeding at life. This leads to a series of events involving archery, having fast food thrown at him, and cold weather.
Cage is very good here. Its always neat to see his character performances in between his seemingly endless bigger Hollywood movies, and dammit if I don't like his ever changing hair styles. Michael Caine also does a great job as Cage's upfront father.
Robert Spritzel: What happened to you?
Dave Spritz: I got hit with a Frosty.
Robert Spritzel: Why did you get hit with a Frosty?
Robert Spritzel: What is a Frosty?
Dave Spritz: It's a shake. From Wendy's.
Robert Spritzel: Why did you get hit with a shake?
Directed by Gore Verbinski, who I guess decided to take a break in between Pirate movies and do something more character based, he constructed the film with a neat sense of style, seemingly disguised as an indie flick, complete with a quirky and neat soundtrack.
This is an entertaining movie, that has a quirky sense of humor, made in the style of an independent film, despite the studio quality production and works very well due to Cage's strangely human character.
Dave Spritz: I mean, I'll bet no one ever threw a pie at, like Harriet Tubman, the founder of the Underground railroad. I'll bet you a million fucking dollars.
I'm not a big fan of Nicholas Cage. There's something about him I don't always like. I think it's that he seems like an asshole sort-of actor. And he played one in this movie. Except that he was a weatherman. And people threw stuff at him. Which wasn't as funny as the trailers seemed to show. I mean there were a few scenes where he's shown walking around with a bow and I actually thought that in the movie he'd use the bow to shoot an arrow at someone who'd throw him something. Such was not the case as this was more serious-tone film. One would think that a person like him would have it all (his character is on the verge of getting a very big job at the morning show "Hello America", kinda like the Today Show I suppose, except with Bryant Gumbel, who I thought would have a bigger cameo by the way), but all his efforts at bringing his family together, making his father proud of him and putting his life in order fail miserably. As he narrated at some point during the film, when his character is in front of his wife's and children's home (he doesn't live with them anymore), that someone living in that house should be happy there but that's not the case, pretty much sums up what I got from this film. As much as he tries to correct his mistakes or fix his problems or "chuck some things in this shit life", the truth is life is very unpredictable... very much like the weather itself.
Watching this, I got really depressed. Not like oh man, that sucks depressed, but like I need pills depressed.
It shows Cage and what he can do. But it also shows that he's been playing a particular version of Cage for awhile.
in the end, I give it a ehhhh
The film is depressing. Gore Verbinski fnally tries another genre and perspective for directing a film, and he didn't fail at all. The character is very interesting and the situations he goes through are not the most depressing and difficult ones, but indeed highlight the personality of the character. The direction and photography are great. The story is not entirely original but it has unique characteristics. Worth a watch. Both Nicolas Cage and (specially) Michael Caine are awesome.
83/100
This was a very weird experience, but it stuck with me long after I watched the movie. Nicolas Cage is just so good at portraying this weatherman, who doesn't know a thing about the weather, people hate him for how he looks and he's trying very hard to live up to what his father wants him to be, what his wife needs him to be and what his daughter sees him to be. He's your typical guy with the problem of being stuck in a rut, and what he does to get out of it, makes this story very spectacular. If you've got the time, I'm recommending the movie ;)
This low-key gem was made between Pirate movie by Gore Verbinski. Comedy of the darkest kind. Nic Cage is brilliant.
"I mean, I'll bet no one ever threw a pie at, like Harriet Tubman, the founder of the Underground railroad. I'll bet you a million fucking dollars."
another human isolated and marginalized feelings in their own environtment which cannot be solve by financially success. so alive yet awesome.

I can understand why some people did not care for this movie. First, it's not a typical Nic Cage movie with humor and or action. Second, the pace of the movie even I find to be a little on the slow side. Third, this is more of an art film, not so much entertainment like so much of American Cinema. The whole movie was a introspective look on the main character and what makes people happy, or what they think will make them happy. It is a strong film, but not for everyone... just as I don't think Reno: 911 is funny or worht it, I know of at least one person who thinks its some of the funniest stuff on TV. To each their own.
I can't understand why so many people find this dull, boring, and unfunny. I guess too many people were expecting a slapstick comedy, but what they got was a more dramatic character study of a man experiencing real life problems. I thought it was superb, and I hope people stop overlooking it.
Heh, bad reviews. If you don't pay attention to this movie, you'll hate it. You need to use common sense to really GET it.
I came to an early conclusion that this is by far one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's real-life problems in the back life of a celebrity who's made it big, but not too big. Awesome music, too.
boring, and so stupid, i wanted to die! I can't express in words how horrible this film was
