Plot: An attempted assassination of the president is told from five different points of view.
Much better than I thought, and I expected a lot. Some may think it's very repetative, but I liked it, it was a little different everytime. Very unexpected and filled with suspence!
Fun little action flick that really relies on the gimmick of replaying the same timespan 5 times. A brilliant cast does well and the twists are genuinely surprising, but at no point was I genuinely excited by the action scenes. The idea is great, but the execution led a little to be desired. Gotta say, the car chase was one of the better ones I've seen this year. Give me 'Momento' any day. Good fun, but hardly groundbreaking stuff.
This was a good action movie. I liked how the film jumped around so we could see each persons perception of the assassination attempt. This movie had a good cast and the film never slowed down so you are always interested what is going to happen next.
So fucking hyped up, huge marketing campaign and a great cast and then---nothing remotely spectacular about it. I love Matthe Fox from LOST too and just, nothing.
Gripping and well paced - covers itself nicely with a glossy package seems alot more intelligent than it actually is, yet it is a highly enjoyable fluff polictical thriller.
The plot about assassination of the president was less interesting than the different viewpoints, which was very interesting and made you think about how you see a scene. What perception you develop when watching an event that takes place before you. Very good movie.
Good movie. A little repetitive showing all the different points of view, but lots of action. Good story.
This predictable storyline tried to throw you off the trail with pretentious camera tricks. Watch if you've nothing else to do.
By taking a familiar story and putting a smart chronological twist on the proceedings, the makers of 'Vantage Point' have attempted some sort of revelatory human drama where the conclusion should supposedly blow you away. Unfortunately, the film isn't anywhere near as clever as it likes to think. Even with the quick editing and well threaded narrative, 'Vantage Point' feels little more than a typical action-flick and fails to leave a lasting impression.
The premise is simple: eight strangers, eight points-of-view. At an international anti-terrorism summit in the middle of Spain, the President of the United States is seemingly shot by an unknown assassin. But the truth isn't what it seems. By working through each character's separate story-arc and uncovering a little more of the reality of events as the film progresses, the audience are exposed to the 'shocking' truths behind the attack, which for the most part are little more than predictable.
William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver impress most of the tight-knit ensemble cast, actually in the smallest of roles. As the president Hurt plays his usual sincere-leader type, and Weaver is witty and fresh as a behind the scenes news executive. Her short narrative spell makes for the most interesting as the audience are treated to an unclouded view of live news reporting. Then there is the shooting, and a deafening explosion.
The first time this travesty occurs, it is very well done. The chill of fear ripples through a crowd, and some introspective, high-angle shots keep the atmosphere claustrophobic, the tension high. With every subsequent replay, however, the scene fast loses momentum. Maybe if the director opted for a more stylistic approach, or stretched the overlap of each story interest would have been easier to maintain. As it is, things go from exciting to intriguing to downright repetitive far too soon.
The plot itself, while highly improbable, is still intelligently constructed. Little is convoluted, and everything wraps up into an almost too neat package so little thought from the audience is required afterward. Don't be fooled by the terrorism label though, because although the director starts to say something about the issue it is soon thrown away in favour of some high-octane, conventionally filmed chase scenes.
Pete Travis has put together a competent picture, and if mindless action is your sort of genre 'Vantage Point' is definitely a step up from the usual fare. Co-leads Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox practically pass by unnoticed, but it's the rigid structure and careful construction of the picture that elevate its otherwise routine status; for which it will be remembered, if it has a chance.
i loved this film!! i'll admit i was tempted to throw the pillow at the telly every time the clock turned back but it was worth it, the acting was great and the story line was fantastic, i was slightly confused at one point but nothing another run through probibly wouldnt solve. So worth renting out
LOVED IT!!!
Seriously good film, shot with 6 different points of view of the same 15 minutes or so, great car chases, vaguely hot guys. What made it even better than the usual action type film was the fact that i honestly did not see what was coming, and i have seen a LOT of action films so...it take s a bit to surprise me lol!
AWESOME!
SEE IT!!!
It was truly ok,not great, not that bad,the ending could've been better though. I liked the premise. Overall, just your average action film.
watching this movie felt like watching a more action-driven The Air I Breathe. the story was contemporary and relevant and the editing and cinematography were extremely well-done. an excellent cast, as well, particularly Forest Whitaker. my only real complaint is that it was too short--I felt there could have been a lot more plot, a lot more action, and a lot more resolution. as it is, though, it's still a decent film.
La trama es muy interesante te tiene en suspenso, me gusto mucho aunque la critica sea dura... por que usa la retrospectiva...
I really liked this movie. Very interesting concept and kept you guessing. I would definitely watch this again.
no real surprises, in fact i knew how it was going to end with in the first 20min. its completely predicable in just about every way...
Interesting Concept but totally guessable because of bad actings! Or maybe it's because we (as audiences) are getting smarter on guessing and small acting details, by watching LOST!!!! haa haa
The movie tells the same story from 8 different perspectives, most of them from a character view and finally adds up to make a great ending.
I didn't find any part as boring in Vantage Point.
The music and action was unbelievable and extremely moving with a lot of suspance.
And the acting is great.
The suspense fails when the ending is fairly obvious, and after awhile the repetition gets annoying- we get the concept, it's very nice, now can you drop it and show us something new?- but i still had fun.
I really enjoyed this movie, because of it's editing, wonderful actors and full packed action. The movie tells the same story from 8 different persepectives, most of them from a character view, makes the puzzle clear till the end. Some puzzle parts can be guessed but this makes the movie so fun to watch. Matthew Fox acting could be better, but the others are convincing. Cheers to Ayelet Zurer, an Israel actress who surprises again with her beauty and acting.
Outstanding! We need more films like this! Great acting, action and suspense! Also PG-13, so violence and language are at a minimum. Well done!
Interesting concept with different perspectives - boring movie. Couldn't really take it seriously. Quite bad acting from a lot of the actors... Can not really recommend this to anyone.

i like the fact that 5 different viewpoints were shown...gets you thinking really hard...
oh yeah also wanted to point out in this movie, the assassination was captured by 5 point of views.
The assassination of former US president Ronald Regan which was a warning assassination (he wasn't actually killed, just reminded to listen to his handlers and the fact that he was more of an actor who was just supposed to read the line) was also captured by 5 different cameras.
Notice this:
-This movie played in theatres the weekend the DALLAS primaries started heating up...Dallas is an important spot in presidential assasinations
-This movie started on February 22nd in Canada, this goes back to John F Kennedy's assisnation.
-The USA was the only place in the world that this movie opened on February the 20th or you could say 2/20...that's also a double 2 (the 0 is unimportant) and this was ESPECIALLY concocted for America.
-The movie is an action packed thriller from COLUMBIA pictures...this has a link to Columbia university which was attended by Barack Obama (who they'll make the next president of the US) amongst other things.
The fact is that they have put this out in this particular time with certain elements proving one thing...it was preconceived or forethought...a lot of planning went into this. Maybe you've noticed this for a while now, but what is happening with the globe is being reflected in the films made for 'entertainment'.
High impact movie! keeps u in ur seat! lol very intense, i liked it dispite the the reviews read- they are wrong!! it's a very good movie. It was my brother's movie for his 15th birthday present and im glad i went with him and a few of my friends joined us and i'm glad they did! we had a great day!
