Plot: Sept. 11, 2001 was an unusually warm day in New York. Will Jimeno, an officer with the Port Authority Police Department, was tempted to take a personal day to enjoy his hobby of bow hunting, but ultim...( read more read more... )ately decided that he would go to work. Sergeant John McLoughlin, a respected veteran of the PAPD, had been up for hours--a requirement of his daily, one-and-a-half hour trek to the city. They and their colleagues made their way to midtown Manhattan, just like they did any other day. Only this wasn't any other day. A team of PAPD first responders drove from mid-town Manhattan to the World Trade Center. Five men, including McLoughlin and Jimeno, went into the buildings and were trapped when the towers collapsed. Miraculously, McLoughlin and Jimeno survived, but were buried and pinned beneath slabs of concrete and twisted metal, 20 feet below the rubble field. Though they couldn't see each other, each could hear that the other had survived, and for the next 12 hours, McLoughlin and Jimeno kept each other alive--talking about their families, their lives on the force, their hopes, their disappointments.

Okay, so hands up who doesnt realise what a great tragedy 9/11 was? Thought as much. So what Oliver Stone has decided to do is remind everyone that on that day there was much heroism and American spirit and courage and stuff to be found in peoples hearts and Zzzz..But, hold the phone! Is this not the same Oliver Stone who has attacked "America" in films like Natural Born Killers, Platoon, Nixon and JFK? So, would it not have made a far more interesting and original film to confront and address the controversy and conspiracy surrounding the attacks? Now, that would have been brave and worth watching. Instead of this tepid, predictable mush.

It's not that I didn't like the movie, but it shouldn't of been made. It's hard to put Nicholas Cage in a heroes role, when all it is, is Hollywood making money off a horrible disaster.

I finally got to see this movie and I am so glad I did. It was very well done and I think that Oliver Stone did a wonderful job with it. It was interesting how he did it, without showing the whole story. This version is about what happened to the police guys called the Port Authority and their journey of how some of them ended up in the trade center building the day of the 9/11 horor. Two guys survived from this group and this is their story of survival. I cried during the movie, because even though Oliver didn't show much of the events that happened that day, you still remember what happened and it brings back so many emotions. This was a great first look at the events that day and hopefully they will eventually tell the rest of the stories of 9/11. This was a good first story of that days tragedy and hopefully there will be more to come.

This was a very American film, to put it simply, very heartfilled and patriotic about their country etc. There was very little action, in my opinion it should have started from showing the first plane crash to the last building being demolished. A missed opportunity to show what everyone is curious to know, what it would have been like if you was actually in the buildings whilst it all happened. Instead it?s a film about two firemen discussing their feelings throughout the entire film. That is definatly an American thing, and probably would appeal to most Americans but to Europeans like me, we want to know what happened because there is more to this than the American government is letting on!

I found it really bad. It was an uber boring film for me. It was mainly about the two firefighter who got stuck within the collapsed building before they could rescue anyone. There was little action and mainly talking.

World Trade Center is the true story of how two cops survived against all odds after the attack on the twin towers. Directed by Oliver Stone, and stars Nicholas Cage, this movie is well done.

More post 9-11 breast beating this time Oliver Stone style. he could have played it straight but you just had to know that is impossible for Mr make It Up As He Goes Along. Has some effective moments but stretches credibility towards the end.

Is a movie about the events that happened on September 11 2001 too soon? In my opinion, not at all. Is it a event worth making a movie out of? I don't think so, I was alive and remember when 9/11 happened. Two towers collapsed, people died, surely not the greatest event to make a script/movie out of. But director Oliver Stone thought it would be a dandy idea to make a movie about it and casted Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena as two police officers trapped under the collapsed towers. The movie is nothing but a boring sob story with no real direction and has some of the cheesiest dialogue ever spoken. The only thing remotely entertaining about the movie is the cameo by Jesus Christ (I kid you not, Jesus is in the damn movie) that had me laughing out loud, but that doesn't save this mess of a film. With this and "Alexander" I think it is safe to say that Oliver Stone is a has been. Stay away from this and watch clips from the tragic day on YouTube or something instead.

It's sad and hard to rate this movie. It's was and will always be a tragedy.

I read comments or reviews from other flixter memebers who have split opinions, which we all have that right.

This movie was beyond two survivors. It was about unity, hope, faith, and the spirit of humans.

I hope it opened many eyes that life is precious and each one of us can and should contribute to a positive change across the world.

Sadly it won't be the last tradedy which breaks my heart but only makes my spirit stronger to help another human being. We ALL are brothers and sisters....

I rate this 5 stars cause it's a movie all should learn and remember. To show my respect to all who have died, survived, who helped in recovery, and families who are without their loved ones.

Ok, I'll tell you what I didn't like (actually hated) about this film:

The 9/11 incident turned out to be one of the most shocking and horrifying incidents in the modern era, as well as one of the most controversial and debated.

The lack of capacity of all the respective national governments worldwide tend to end up in disaster, poverty, chaos, and even, like in this case, unnecessary and horrendous terrorist attacks.

The main victims of this unability are, above all social classes, the citizens, innocent people who, with their own work and effort for contributing for the development of the country, have to perish, be damaged and even killed just to attract political and social attention either for a particular geographical area, or for the entire nation.

The World Trade Center event, which took place now 6 years ago, filled the eyes of the people with terror, fear and confusion. The path the country was supposed to be following was radically changed for bad.

It was a day when we realized that, although governmental (or terrorist?) forces are capable of causing significant damage to our town, we are still capable of helping, supporting and even saving lives of other people, since we deserve to be called, MEN, and deserve to be called HUMANS. It was an event that involed people, love and perseverance.

Now let's go to this World Trade Center thing... I'm terribly dissapointed with Oliver's Stone perspective towards the situation. First we see some shades in the sky and strange noises, of where we are supposed to believe that some planes are coming towards the Twin Towers (right?), we hear a big crash and suddenly the building where the protagonists are, collapses, but they manage to seva their lifes.

Oh no!, Michael Pena and Nicholas Cage are stuck under the building's wreckage and its up to a dedicated rescute team to save them! And all the time we only see and know about the couple of men trapped there and their respective families.

What do we see when they are finally rescued? Lots of people who waited around Ground Zero start to cheer and clap their hands and shout out of emotion and joy because they are alive, like if the only victims had been both of them.

That is so unfair! Where is the emotion, the patriotism, the power of the human condition and the beauty of the wonderful human soul when under disaster and chaos circumstances? I would like to know that... So the heroes (and the only persons we should be happy about in the movie) are only Pena and Cage. Wow! So unexpected, coming from Hollywood (sarcasm).

The direction was fine, the acting was fairly acceptable and the music was genius, but ask Michael Moore; it's about the perspective you present when managing such strong thematic elements and a complex historical event.

I know it is based on a true story and historical facts, but the areas covered here are those where Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) and United 93 (2006) didn't fail.

Oliver... you could've been sweet. Don't EVER do this again, please.

Boring film. I wish it would have documented the attack and the people more, rather than focusing on just two of the officers who were stuck in the building.

No one wants to admit it but we just wanted to get the first hand experience on what it would have been like to be in the towers at the time of the attacks etc. This was an opportunity missed but I feel this would appeal to most Americans because they can relate to the firemans feelings etc and we all no how much Americans talk about their feelings and their dedication to their country, which is good really in times like this. But in places like Europe, we can’t get to grips with all the lovey dovey stuff and basically I just wanted to see what it was like. I’m not being fecicious but that is what I expected. I would have also wanted to see what spin they took on who’s fault the towers collasped. I don’t know whether the states are getting this information but all signs are pointing to bombs being planted. I believe the conspiracy theory now, straight after I watched a youtube video of a fireman running out to a street shouting “there’s bombs in the building!”. Also Bush‘s reaction!!!

OMG!!! R U SERIOUS PPL. COME ON!!! I AGREE WITH THE GIRL WHO COMMENTED BEFORE ME! THEY ONLY DID TWO PPL CAUSE THEY KNOW FIRST HAND. AND THE OTHER FAMILIES MAY HAVE NOT OF AGREED TO BE IN THE MOVIE. AND HOLLYWOOD DIDN'T JUST DO THIS FOR THE MONEY. I CAN'T BELIEVE U'D THINK THAT. IT'S SO PPL CAN ACTUALLY KNOW HOW MUCH COURAGE AND BRAVERY IT TOOK TO ACTUALLY GO IN THERE KNOWING THAT U MIGHT NOT COME BACK OUT. I MEAN, THIS IS FOR THE FAMILIES OUT THERE WHO LOST SOMEONE ON THAT DAY. IT'S SO PPL CAN TRULY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, HOW IT FELT, AND WHO WAS THERE. IF THEY WOULD'VE DONE IT FOR THE MONEY, THEN THEY WOULDN'T HAVE GONE INTO GREAT DETAIL. I MEAN, THIS MOVIE REALLY TELLS HOW AMERICA IS STRONG. HOW WE ALL CAN COME TOGETHER DURING A CRISIS. I SAW IT, I CRIED. I MEAN, FOR EVERYTHING THOSE FAMILIES WERE GOING THROUGH. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE, NOT SAYING WHAT HAPPENED WAS GOOD, I'M JUST SAYING, THAT THEY MADE THIS MOVIE THE RIGHT WAY. AND ONE MORE THING, U CAN'T HATE THE ACTORS EITHER.

This movie was well made. I was reading other comments. People asked why the movie only revolved around those two people. Those two people were the only one's who could trully tell you first hand what it felt like to be there when the towers fell. There were only 20 people taken out of the rubble. And no they couldn't say anything about the people who jumped from the towers....that would be too much. and to add how would anyone know what any of the people up there were thinking. thier not alive to tell thier story. These two men were. They made it. and i think thier story was told in a very good light.

It really is a moving movie, it brought so much raw emotions to the surface and in response to the comments about how it would be boring because it revolves around 2 people, that is only 2 of 20 that survived, it says so at the end.

I think its disgusting that Hollywood have to turn tragedies into money making movies. I think its just awful, what if the parents and families of the actual people who died on that horrible day saw Hollywood only talk about 2 firemen for the duration of the film. How would they feel? Well done Nick Cage, lost total respect.

If a movie is good then it is good, regardless of the perception of those who would go beyond casting doubt, but even hatred for a film that they very likely have not seen. Countless ppl have seen this movie & most of them enjoyed it, regardless of the negativity that this movie has received from certain ppl, many of them who don't like Nicolas Cage.

I haven't seen this movie & I won't rate it until I do. Many ppl rate many movies on here when they don't like the looks of them, but they nonetheless haven't seen them & barely anything irritates me more...

It was a great story about the 2 firemen, but i think it would have been better if it would have been about more of the Events that occured that day Dealing with the world Trade Center.....rather than just 2 firemen, there story was a great one and glad i saw it, but if it was just going to be about them 2, i dont think they should have named it World Trade Center
