With Keira Knightley’s movie “The Duchess” opening in the United Kingdom, I’ve been provided with a bunch of video featurettes. The things to know about “The Duchess” are…the film opens in the United States on September 19th – in limited release. Also, it takes place at the end of the eighteenth century and it’s the story of Georgiana, The Duchess of Devonshire, the most fascinating woman of the age. Here’s the official synopsis:



While her beauty and charisma made her name, her extravagant tastes and appetite for gambling and love made her infamous. Married young to the older, distant Duke of Devonshire, intimate of ministers and princes, Georgiana became a fashion icon, a doting mother, a shrewd political operator and darling of the common people. But at the core of her story is a desperate search for love. From Georgiana’s passionate and doomed affair with Earl Grey to the complex ménage à trois with her husband and her best friend, Lady Bess Foster, The Duchess is a very contemporary tale of fame, notoriety and the search for love. The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Charlotte Rampling and it’s been directed by Saul Dibb.



While I’m sure some of you aren’t fans of period pieces….I am. All I can say is, when they’re done well, they can compete with any big budget Hollywood blockbuster. Will “The Duchess” be one of the classic period pieces that people will talk about for years….that, I don’t know. But I see the film later this week, and I’m sure I’ll be getting more clips to post….so I’ll tell you all what I think when I post whatever other EPK materials I get.
