The Bella Cullen Project Unveils New ‘Twilight’ Song |
Jul 9, 2008 |

With six months still remaining until the “Twilight” movie hits theaters, fans are getting all the more eager for anything involving the forbidden romance of Edward and Bella. Luckily, The Bella Cullen Project is here to keep our fingers snapping, toes tapping, and sexy vampires on our mind.
Last week, MTV had the pleasure of traveling to Arlington Texas to catch up with Ally, Chandler and Tori, the three high school sophomores whose tunes pay tribute to the words of Stephenie Meyer. I had seen their MySpace page and heard some of their songs, but I was honestly amazed by how pretty their voices and melodies are, and with lyrics like “Edward’s so hot he can set the house on fire/he’s a sexy vampire,” these teens already have more talent than all the Pussycat Dolls put together.
For this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” festivities, we just published an interview with the girls, as well as the world premiere of the video for “Out of the Blue,” the first song off their new album. It comes out next week, and can be purchased on their website and their MySpace. I don’t know about you guys, but I think “Out of the Blue” would make a perfect song to play over the “Twilight” end credits this December.
While we were in Texas, BCP also unveiled a song so brand spankin’ new that it isn’t even on their record. The ditty is called “It’s Recreation, Not Suicide” a reference any Twilighter worth their salt would catch, as you can see from the fan reaction on the attached video of their first-ever live performance of the song.
“It’s pretty much about Bella in ‘New Moon’ when she jumps off the cliff,” explained Ally to us. “Which is the point of the title.”
“It’s just saying that everybody thinks she’s killing herself or that she’s dead or whatever,” added Tori, who doubles as the band’s guitarist. “But the fans know and you know what’s going on, but nobody else does.”
“And it’s a really empowering song for girls,” added Chandler. “Because she’s kind of saying, ‘You’ve done this to me, I can still be a strong person. In your face!’ It’s just a fun song.”
The song is also notable because it shows how the BCP are expanding their musical talents. Tori’s guitar playing gets much more intense, and Ally chimes in with a tambourine.
“I definitely think we’re growing as musicians,” explained Chandler. “Because the more experience we get, the more fine-tuned our music gets, along with our performing. We’ve started working harder on our songs and how we write them and how we perform them, and we’ve been more particular.”
“We’ve been trying to put more instruments in: violas, basses, tambourines,” agreed Tori. “We’ve been throwing everything in there that we have at our houses. I think our music is definitely getting better; it’s definitely getting more awesome.”
I know I couldn’t agree more. So press “play” and take a look at “Recreation,” which the band hopes to put on a future record somehwere down the road. And be sure to visit their site and grab a copy of their self-title debut next week, which features a picture of the girls with a Bella Cullen-truck lookalike on the cover. These girls might not be the only “Twilight” band out there, but judging by their recent performance, they’re definitely one of the best.
Okay everyone, here’s your Twilight Tuesday question of the week: Pretend you’re Catherine Hardwicke, and it was time to think music. Which Bella Cullen Project song would you want to put on the “Twilight” soundtrack, and during which scene would you have it playing?

Rain of Madness Movie Trailer |

Hearts of Darkness was a famous documentary which chronicled the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic war film Apocalypse Now.
Rain of Madness is a mockumentary chronicling the fictional war movie that is the subject of the upcoming Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder. A trailer has been released online.
The concept is actually a lot better than it’s execution, but its still worth checking out. I keep hearing nothing but great things about Tropic Thunder. I’m just wondering if there is an actual full length mockumentary (possibly to appear on the special edition DVD) or does the trailer just exist as its own entity. As always, I’d be interested to hear what you think in the comments below.

IT'S ALWAYS DARKEST BEFORE THE RED DAWN |

Mary Parent, newly in charge of MGM, ain't wasting no time. She's making moves on the Red Dawn remake that has been hinted at for a couple of months. Now a screenwriter and director are hired, so shit's getting real. Former second unit director and stunt coordinator Dan Bradley (Bourne Ultimatum, Spider-Man 3, Quantum of Solace) will direct from a script by Carl Ellsworth.
THR refers to the flick as "the ultimate homeland invasion story for a new generation of besieged high schoolers" but beyond that, we've got no idea what it'll be about. I'd look for China to be invading the US, perhaps in some coalition with Iran and herpes. This isn't Ellsworth's first stab at a remake -- he's credited with Disturbia and rewrites on the Last House on the Left remake in addition to an adaptation of Y: The Last Man. "The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," said Ellsworth before deleting John Milius' last few voicemails from his iPhone.
The same article also has a juicy tidbit about RoboCop, the MGM property we all actually care about. Try this: "a big-budget rebuild of "RoboCop," which director Darren Aronofsky among others has recently been in to discuss." Now, taking the hope that Aronofsky's next two pictures will make a little bit of money, I'd rather see him go back to making his own stuff, but man. If anyone would get and properly update the satire of RoboCop it would be him. |

Six New Pics from 'Twilight' |

After reading "Twilight" I tossed the book the way of my mother. She finished it in a day. My sister picked it up and also finished it in a day and then proceeded to buy "New Moon" and "Eclipse". She read those in a day-and-a-half. My mother then grabbed those and finished 'em off pronto. The two of them now wait for the fourth book to hit this fall, but will they enjoy the film adaptation starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson?
RopeofSilicon has just added six new pictures from Twilight to our photo gallery and all of them are in hi-resolution, save one. Apologies for the smaller image.
You can click here or on one of the thumbnails below to check out the new pictures for the film about high school love with a twist as an Arizona girl falls in love with a vampire from Forks, Washington.
Twilight hits theaters on December 12.

Kilmer: 'Ledger Legacy Is Complete Thanks To Great Roles' |

VAL KILMER is happy pal HEATH LEDGER got to show off his acting talents in challenging roles before his untimely death - because now he'll be considered one of the greats.
The Doors star discovered a soulmate in Ledger but always worried the "interesting and successful" roles he played never showed his true talents.
But, thanks to Brokeback Mountain and the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, the late Aussie's legacy will be spot on.
Kilmer tells WENN, "I've known him for a number of years and there was a gravity to him that came up.
"It's tough, but when I think about him, in terms of the tragedy of his life ending, I'm happy that he got to do a couple of roles that matched what he was capable of because he always seemed to me an actor doing interesting and successful work, but he was better than some of those roles."
Former Batman Kilmer and the new Joker Ledger met up a month before the latter died from an accidental drug overdose in January (08) and Kilmer still has fond memories of their last meeting.
He recalls, "He was very proud of having quit drinking. We were in a nasty smoke-filled club and I was drinking water and Heath's like, 'Hey, you're drinking water,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, you're drinking water too,' and he was excited about drinking water.
"He said he hadn't had a drink in about a year."

It's Official! The 'Watchmen' Trailer Will Play Before 'The Dark Knight'! |

Zack Snyder wouldn't confirm it last month when he talked to Collider, but Coming Soon has now scored confirmation about which trailers Warner Brothers Pictures is tacking on to the next Batman installment when it hits next week on July 18.
Wonderfully and most importantly, is Watchmen. I can only hope that it shows some action, and a good look at the heroes (including Doc Manhattan), rather than a teaser that lays on more anticipatory torment. The next in the list is, fittingly, Terminator Salvation, which will give us a taste of Bale in the future, before the trailers end and he slips into the batsuit. Finally, there's Ridley Scott's Body of Lies.
Does this affect your moviegoing plans in any way? When I bought my midnight screening tickets for The Dark Knight a week or two ago, my friend and I had a whole discussion about screens -- do we see Batman in IMAX with no Watchmen, or see it on a normal screen and finally delight in the first teaser. We opted to skip the IMAX experience this time, but what about you? Do these trailers change your plans at all? Will you now see the film on a certain screen, or check out the movie earlier to see Snyder's eagerly anticipated trailer? |

Well, nothing is quite as cool as Luna Lovegood in her Spectrespecs, but there are a few more images from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince floating around the net (these are courtesy of Ace Showbiz). You can check out Rupert Grint's head-protected Quidditch getup at the dining table with Harry and Hermione above... (Can anyone tell me why he doesn't free his head while he eats? Does he fear that he'll lose his helmet?) And the other pic at AS has got Harry having a pow-wow with Professor Slughorn (Jim Broadbent), who is sporting an affably devilish facial expression.
This time around, Harry is in his 6th year at Hogwarts, and he finds "a potion book signed by the self-titled half-blood prince." There'll be scares for sure, as well as wackiness, and what you can see above -- some good rounds of Quidditch. This will all hit the screen November 21. |

Matt and Cam put a lot of thought into their little boy’s lifelong moniker:
“Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible. They were, in fact, two names for the same person,” Matt explains.
“Our son was born at 6:22 pm, and this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in The Bible: ‘If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.’”
The baby’s middle name is taken from his mother’s last name: “We wanted to incorporate her family name,” Matt beams.

Anti-smoking hysteria reaches new heights |
Jul 8, 2008 |
Maic0 |
Other |
Complaints to the BBC after Top Gear presenters lit up pipes containing herbal tobacco in a light-hearted RAF parody scene. A pub stormed by riot police after a customer refused to put out a cigarette. A threatening letter and a £75 fine sent by a local council to a woman who had dropped a cigarette butt.
Thought the current wave of anti-smoking hysteria sweeping Britain couldn't get any sillier? Then think again. At the BMA's annual conference earlier this week, Dr Vivienne Nathanson, the organisation's head of science and ethics, urged film censors to give "pro-smoking" films an 18 certificate. Dr Nathanson cited the film Independence Day, in which hero Will Smith celebrates victory against aliens by lighting up a cigar as an example of a pro-smoking film. And if smoking has to be portrayed on our TV screens, Dr Nathanson would like to see storylines being developed that show the damaging consequences.
If Dr Nathanson and the BMA get their way – and in the present tobaccophobic climate it is a reasonable bet that they will – a classic children's film such as 101 Dalmatians would need an 18 certificate all on account of Cruella de Vil's penchant for puffing on her cigarette holder. And smoking soap characters would have to be shown going through the agonies of emphysema/lung cancer/bronchitis and all the other dreadful illnesses which smoking can cause, just so viewers don't get the wrong idea.
We live in a society in which we are bombarded with images of violence at the cinema, on television and on our computer screens, and yet Dr Nathanson thinks the biggest problem is Will Smith lighting a cigar. Never mind the number of violent deaths in Independence Day; it's the celebratory cigar that causes the offence.
In truth, Dr Nathanson doesn't have too much to worry about: film and TV programme makers are already bending over backwards to appease the anti-smoking lobby. Ian Fleming's James Bond is a 60-a-day man (Balkan and Turkish with three gold bands on the filter), but in the latest Bond film, Casino Royale, 007 is a smoke-free paragon – a man fully in tune with the rather strange morals of the first decade of the 21st century. "I can blow off someone's head at close range and splatter blood, but I can't light a good Cuban cigar," says the film's star, Daniel Craig. In the 2004 film version of Thunderbirds, that hitherto most stylish of smokers, Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, was deprived of her trademark cigarette holder. And in last year's BBC production of Sherlock Holmes, the world's most famous detective was, for the first time, sans pipe.
How different things were 30 or 40 years ago. Back then, even the contestants on University Challenge were allowed to smoke. In Joan Bakewell's famous Late Night Line Up interview with Harold Pinter, both interviewer and interviewee smoked freely; today they'd both face fines and censure.
No one is disputing that smoking constitutes a health risk. But a society that gets into more of a strop over fictional characters puffing on pipes, cigars and cigarette holders than people blasting each other to kingdom come, is surely one which has lost all sense of perspective |

Who Was The Ultimate ‘Dark Knight’? Christian Bale or Michael Keaton? |
Jul 8, 2008 |

You can tell a lot about a person by the Batman he sides with. Most of us nowadays are probably going to go with Christian Bale, right? I mean he (and Nolan’s world) captured the Dark Knight in a way that really raised the franchise to previously unimagined heights (at least in terms of widespread acclaim).
But then again, I love me my Michael Keaton. He’s the Batman I grew up with after all and his snarling utterance of “I’m Batman” just edges out Bale’s growling utterance of “I’m Batman” in my book.
In the last week we’ve also talked to both Adam West (more on that soon) and Val Kilmer (stay tuned for an amazing discussion of the bat nipples) but much as I love them, they’re kind of also-rans in this superhero contest, right?
We’re delving into a lot more than the casting of Batman in this article just up all about the history of the character. Check it out here.
And in the meantime, maybe you want to weigh in? Who best captures the Batman in your mind’s eye? Sound off.

Jessica Simpson has been left “deeply hurt” after being verbally assasinated during Pamela Anderson’s appearance on an Australian radio show last week. The animal rights activist and devout vegan branded Simpson a “bitch” and a “whore” after the singing star was spied wearing a “Real Girls Eat Meat” t-shirt in Encino, Californina last month.
“She was deeply hurt and upset at the comments. To say Jessica is mad about it is an understatement,” a Simpson snitch said Tuesday.
“She is disgusted at Pamela’s remarks and fully intended to go after her, until her family made her see sense. Her folks told her NOT to make a big deal of it – as that would only get Pamela the press she’s so desperate for.”
“So Jessica is keeping quiet as she’s the one on the way up, while Pamela Anderson is on the way down,” says the spy.

High School Musical 3 Spoilers Surface |

USA Today has done a special article from the set of High School Musical 3: Senior Year and gave away a good part of the ending without the courtesy of a spoiler warning. Of course, considerate one that I am, I'll give you the details and put the spoilers after the jump, just in case you're a dork like me and actually care.
The main six actors including Zac Efron, his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale have all returned to East High in Salt Lake City, which was previously undisclosed so I hope Disney was planning on going to a new location for the predicted 4th installment.
Star Zac Efron was the last star to sign on for the third movie, but was happy to explain why it took him so long to sign. "High School Musical has always been a blast to work on since Day 1," he said. "I just didn't know if a third one would work. When the script came in, I thought it was very well done, and it was an easy yes."
- On the set there was a red banner proclaiming "Congratulations Wildcats: Back to Back Champions!"
-In the gym Troy's jersey is retired and hung on the wall next to his dad's and his best friend Chad's jersies.
-Sharpay sings a song called "I Want It All" (no surprise) where she daydreams about being a huge star and Troy is a crazed fan in the audience wearing a silkscreened T-shirt her face on it. The scene took up 3 days out of the 45 scheduled for filming.
- The movie ends at graduation where the usual big ending performance takes place on a football field.

Three Directors Sign for Ripper Trilogy |

UK pubcaster Channel 4 is prepping a trilogy of films revolving around the hunt for the notorious Yorkshire Ripper serial killer.
The three crime films are based on three of the four books in British novelist David Peace's "Red Riding Quartet," which is set in Yorkshire in the 1970s and early '80s. Storylines cover police corruption and perversion of justice in the hunt for the Ripper from 1975 until his detection in 1981, when Peter Sutcliffe was convicted of murdering 13 women. He is serving multiple life sentences.
Three directors are aboard to helm the project, which is budgeted at $10 million in total. Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane) will direct "Nineteen Seventy Four," James Marsh (Man on Wire) will direct "Nineteen Eighty" and Anand Tucker (And When Did You Last See Your Father?) will direct "Nineteen Eighty Three."
Tony Grisoni, who wrote the screenplay for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," has adapted the three Peace books. Elements from Peace's second book -- "Nineteen Seventy Seven" -- will be woven into the three pics.
The films are being made as a TV series, with a UK theatrical release likely to follow. Pics will carry the Film 4 banner outside the UK, where they will be sold for theatrical release. Casting is under way.

International "Tropic Thunder" Trailer |

"Tropic Thunder" looks to be one of the funniest comedies of 2008 and today we have an international trailer for it, containing lots of new and outrageous scenes.
"Tropic Thunder" is about five actors who go on location and find themselves relying on their boot camp experiences when they get stuck in a real war-like situation.
The new film is directed by Stiller, who has previously helmed "Zoolander" and one of my favorite comedies "Cable Guy." At this point, "Tropic Thunder" is scheduled to hit theaters on August 15th. |

"They are still friends," a source close to Barrymore tells Us.
Barrymore, 33, and Long, 30, have been together since August 2007.
"I've been very fortunate," Long told Us in November. "I just feel very blessed and happy!"
You know, I was really hoping that Drew would finally settle down with someone and I really thought that Justin Long was that man. Such a shame. Well, ladies, it seems that Justins on the market. Anyone interested? |

Somedays I wish I could post two or three videos in VOTD. But the title of the daily column is kind of limiting. I just came across this wonderful video clip from Corey Haim and Corey Feldman’s A&E reality show The Two Coreys which shows Haim having a mental breakdown on the set of The Lost Boys 2. We really really want to support Haim, but it’s hard to get someone who is ready to self destruct at any given moment. Check it out below.
